Thanks Walter, I'm pretty pleased with it myself.

Time to close the sides of the spare wheel well (inner wings)
Made a new sheet metal piece and welded it in place.

All nice again

Fitted the left A-arm so that I can start on the upper mount. Also tried the Porsche skitplate. It's a small piece to protect the front of the torsiontube.

Next step; change the front strut again. Now I will weld the top piece of a golf strut to the Porsche strut. This way the golf shocks will axially fit

On the left side the hood releasecable has to move
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/124955.jpg

The hood releasecable will run on the front of the topmount, you can also see the top of the shock coming through the innerwing.

Starting to look like where getting there.

That's about right.

Shortend the other side and welded the golf1 piece on top.

Had a few hours Oval time today
Hood release welded again.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/125228.jpg

All the steering brackets etc. removed and tried the R&P steering. It seems that there is to little space to mount the steering in the back of the struts, so I switched Left and Right and now I will be searching for an English R&P.
Also tried some wheels, When I am sure that they are perfectly aligned, I start the def. welds.

Looking good. The purist will have a cow when they see struts on an Oval. I love it.

After more searching and reading about the ackermaan geometry, I decided to change the angle of the steering rods.

R&P mounted.

To avoid bumpsteer, the steering rod's should be parallel to the A-arm.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/125506.jpg

After lowering the steering rack by 1,5cm, the rods are parallel and bumpsteer Will be minimal.

Tomorrow I will do some tests with a wheel mounted, hopefully I got it right.

The inner ball joints on the rack should be over the inner pivot point for the lower control arms paralleling the angle the strut travels in. Suspension geometry is tricky!!!!

I know. They are almost in line, it is very hard to find a rack with the exact width. And yes, it is very tricky.

Thanks for thinking with me.

Today I checked the clearance of the rods with my own wheels.

The track wheels (fuch's) fit perfect.
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/125550.jpg

The street wheels have clearance but have a bad ET (to far out)

Now the front is (almost) ready, I started on the (new) gearbox mount. (the enginelid has to be closed)

I think I have to move the gearbox foreward.
