Ever heard of British Leyland and Lucas Electric? ;):lmao:

JK, I think in the car world you guys have the best stuff around. It's all big muscle and noise in NA, I would love to have access to what you guys have. That being said, prices for stuff is awefully good here because of the volume I guess, so it's a matter of just being picky.

Does Lucas make refrigerators? That maybe why the English have a taste for warm beer:)

volkdent February 23rd 2011 21:40

Ouch!:D

'Proper' beer isn't meant to be super chilled. Besides its so cold and miserable here the beer makes us warm :p

Plus in England I'm informed Fosters is actually worth drinking in comparison to I Australia.

And lets not get started on American beer... Budweiser doesn't count :D

Hi

We send the dreadful beer overseas ie Fosters.

I'm having a taste of my favourite brew now, James Boag Premium Lager, I'm partial to Stella as well and Miller Chill occasionally.

It's inescapable that you have to super chill any alcohol to kill the taste. Warm XXXX must taste like the Murray River whereas our Burton Ale tastes like the Trent. :p

I note we have no comments from our continental cousins?

Now where's the Leffe?

Some will roll their eyes, and some will drool, but the bolts finally arrived:

It gets better/worse. I'm currently waiting for carbon fiber washers I had built. I needed bigger fender washers but not the weight, and it was a favor, so no $ out of my pocket.

Sweet!

Carbon fiber washers! Love it!

If you want to get even more anal: I think by looking at the pic, you can shorten the bolts some as you may not need all their length?

al_kaholik March 25th 2011 04:42

Don't forget to strip the nylon out of the nuts to save some more weight!

Kudos though, they look mint!

A friend of mine used to rally a Lada and because he could afford the trickest blueprinting etc that the others had he resorted to the lightening route trimming all bolts so that they were the perfect length for example. He had the lightest Lada in the series that also made him competitive! The guy who bought it (another mate) put the standard doors back on amongst other things as he couldn't stand the way the original ones wobbled when you closed them.:lmao:

volkdent March 25th 2011 20:28

That's exactly why I did this for the fender bolts, totally doesn't make any difference to the driver what is there, makes a difference in weight though. I will keep my solid doors, as I want the sound they make when I close them, but back and side windows will be Lexan as besides a little more noise, it shouldn't make much of a difference to me, but a lot of difference on weight. Once she's all together I think I will continue the lightening route on non-essential stuff. It hurt to add the roll cage for weight, but that is a serious essential in my opinion. Alloy lug nuts, saves weight and especially unsprung weight.

As far as shortening these, I think that will the thicker FG fenders and then washers too, and that the nuts are welded from the back side, I'm not sure I've got a lot of length left to lose in most cases, plus it's nice just to grab a thread right away instead of trying to get a shorty to take.

My Rallycross beetles had all the body/pan fixing plates and bolts ditched and the joins welded ,the wings used radiator self tapping screws, not pretty, but functional, they had 6" of mud under there most w/ends, but they were quick and of course had a short 'sacrificial' life expectancy of 3 or 4 years only, it was common to see rallycross beetles in combat with wings missing for that reason, with the mud attached we lost an instant 25lb per corner:lmao:.

..... and with around 6 corners per lap and 4 laps per race that was a lot of weight!:lmao::lmao::lmao::p

volkdent March 29th 2011 16:28

The off-road truck racers I swear use that to their advantage regularily. It's quite uncommon to see the trucks finish a race without major body panels missing. Makes sense to lose a lot of weight quickly!
