AFAIK the steel arms are the same except for the bushings. Does your friend have 7" ET40 (boxster rears) or 6" ET50? (boxster fronts) at the back end of his bug?
6"s would fine, may well even need a spacer.

The 944 steel arms are the same as the beetle IRS, only i guess they are stronger due to internal bracing. I used them only becuase they were not rusty like my stock arms... and since there the same arms, yet stronger... why not eh?

The only thing I can think of would be to avoid extra weight. When have you ever had an a-arm break on a road car?!? :eek:

welll you would think they would also flex less aswell. But your right, i have never seen a stock arm break on a road car anyways. but like i said, my stock arms where rusty so i used the better ones mainly for that resson, i dont think the weight it a huge factor. the brakes and wheels i will be runing add weight anyways. i dont think its alot of weight anyhow, i couldnt feel the difference when i picked the two up side by side.

well i got the wheels, and the rears stick out a little (4mm or so) (rim only)
this is with early 944 brakes on a 1303... now if i used the 6" it would need a small spacer.

If the wheel is only sticking out by 4mm (0.16") with no load on the suspension (on a jack/jackstands), they will probably camber-in enough (even on an IRS car) to clear the fenders when the car is on the ground. Don't put too wide of a tire on and you should be alright. I run 215/55-16's on my 16x7 ET40 Boxster rims and they look good.

You'll need to clearance the suspension stop on the chassis and you may also have to clearance a springplate bolt or two...or the tire will hit them.

If you put the 16x6 ET50 wheels on back of a stock IRS car you'd want ~18mm spacers, you may want a little less since you've got the 944 brakes :confused: .

Well im going to use the 7's out back and the 6's up front.

For a friend of mine we mounted a set of 7x16's,et40 ... on all four corners.
Car was (and is) a 1982 Mex.
Tyres up front are 195/45x16 and rear 195/50x16.

Front fitment is tight,and we had to adjust the turning circle for inner wheel(and tyre)clearance.

does he have Porsche 944 brakes in the front and rear? this adds a few inches to the total track width....

Hi,

will these boxster type wheels fit under standard fenders: the 5 spoke spilt ones.

set up 4x 16" ET50
i am currently rebuildin my stock 1200 to the 944 ALU IRS sytem so thats ny biggest point at this moment do i have to use fenders wich are widened?

I think it will be the 944 aluminium arms that dictate what wings you'll need. I reckon you will need wider ones.
You can work out the extra track of the A arms over a standard car then minus the gain by the bigger offset rims.
Or you can simply measure across the outer faces of the 2 rear rims & compare to a standard width car.

For interest sake, I have a ghia with stock irs rear and the 7 et40 with 205-50-16 fits with no trouble (Drums). Front 6" et50 fits fine with 195-50-16 but was not clearing the swaybar clamps. Need an over the arm style sway bar. Speedo dust cap is a bit of a pain too. It sticks out and gets in the way of the center cap. (stock ghia rotors)

They fit fine......... Had to use a small (1/8") spacer on front to fully seat the center cap. Still have stock fenders.
