If you contact QA1 I'm sure you could get a pair of these made with the threads for a coilover. Looks like it would bolt right on to a BJ front end after removal of the lower bar and the addition of some sort of sleeve.

follow up to QA1 coilovers...

Is anyone running these on their street car? I am interested in how these are setup, they look nice, what springs are being run? anyone?

volkdent April 24th 2008 16:14

I have them on the front of mine, can't remember what spring rate, so far so good, still playing with the tuning, but I'm not going to waste too much time until the correct springs are in.

Hi there, I have just found this topic right now. I'm thinking on the same thing, want to remove the torsion bar... but I'm not sure if the front beam is strong enough to handle a coil-over setup? (talking about the ball joint beam)

I made some research on the web, and found red9 and remmele who are selling kits like this. Both of them are advertising the kits without a modified beam, so I think t have to work but I don't know, still not 100% sure....

by the way, the remmele kit is made from a simple yellow koni (sport) shock which is firm adjustable so it can be done easily, just have to find the right springs.

is there anybody using coil overs in his standard bug? please tell me all the experiences about it...cheers:zo

oh yeah and I have an other problem with it. If the beam is strong enough, and won't broke there is an other weak point. I have tried to drow it, maybe it's more clear..even because my english is not good enough to know all the parts.

my problem is with the REDpart (sorry don't know the name). The upper is OK. But that one at the bottom is going to be continually pressed by the spring, even if the car is stopped. At this one, the bolt that holds that red thing is upside-down (from down to up), so I'm afraid that it can broke, and come out. If that happens you can easily lose your rim, that demage the bumper etc etc....

any opinion?

You're speaking of balljoints, yes, the lower one will have the entire load of the car. I worried about that too with mine, but people don't really have issues with these breaking. I was very concerned with this when my suspension was designed, but the designer was very cautious and he said it was not a problem at all.

Good to hear it, thanks!! i think I'll try it (however the roads are terribly bad here)..

one more (stupid) qestion. from the beam the torsion bar is fisically removed or just out of order?
