Picked up a 901 today. Thanks Randy! Pics as soon as I get in front of a desktop computer.

cool project - did you consider going the IRS framehorn route? 2 birds with one stone then?

hotsauce February 14th 2012 15:52

Originally yes. However, since I decided it'd be cooler to use the aluminum arms I have, I had to move the pivots inboard by 1.5" and that meant removing the framehorns entirely.

dub_crazee February 16th 2012 08:48

ah right fair enough! keep the progress pictures coming - looking forward to seeing this one done!

hotsauce February 27th 2012 16:23

Here's the start of the front mount. More laters.

Front mount is done-zo. Hoping for some time this weekend to screw with the rear mount.

So, after much thought, I've decided to ditch the cradle mount as I felt it would leave the bellhousing too thin after countersinking the bolts. So I started building a rear mount using the stock type IV moustache bar......

And here are the bits that will be welded to the frame/moustache bar once I box in the frame.

Haven't updated this in a while.....

Rear mount is just about finished. Haven't taken a pic yet. Because I'm lazy.

Dash fill panel tacked.

And something I was goofing around with. I cut the decklid because it will be getting a Porsche 356 decklid grille. So instead of mounting the plate to the bumper or something lame, I thought this would be nifty. Let me know what you think.

Here's the pic of the mounts. Need some paint etc, but I'm happy with them.

Love the lift hatch idea. Do you have pix of the engine lid with the 356 grill in it? Do you think the solid engine/tans mount might be a little brutal without some isolation?

hotsauce May 6th 2012 14:31

I don't have a 356 grille...... yet. Will post pics as soon as I get one. As far as the solid mounting, I've always done that with all of my vws. I actually prefer it. Thanks for the compliment on the hatch. I'm still not 100% on how it'll look installed.

hotsauce July 13th 2012 13:28

Got the shift linkage almost sorted. Just need to figure out a bushing for the bit that attaches to the hockey stick. I've got an idea... hopefully it'll work the way I envision.

I also made a patch/notch to fill where I took the heater tube out.

Oh, and I finally got the 356 grille so that mod will start soon...stay tuned.

No pics, but a somewhat exciting update. Traded my t-3 turbo for a brand new T-4 with BOV and picked up a set of suzuki gsxr 750 throttlebodies for my fuel injection conversion... I promise I'll get some pics up soon.

TSAF September 21st 2012 03:19

Get them up as soon as possible!!!

NO_H2O September 21st 2012 21:04

Looking forward to some pix. Really been thinking about trying some GSXR throttle bodies myself.
