Yes, kevlar-carbon is possible. As fore the lights, I'd like to get everyone's ideas and opinions on what would be the best lights to use.

Humble January 17th 2007 01:48

Quick question for ya. I've got 3"+ wider front fenders on my 72 super and would love to get a combo bumper/spoiler but I'm kind of a one off deal. How hard is is to cut and splice CF? Take your bumper and add 6-7" in the middle of it to clear fenders/tires and generally be more effective.

oasis January 17th 2007 11:25

Thanks for the responses and the info. This is great news indeed.

I will send a personal e-mail as my ideas are not likely to be the same as the consensus.

volkdent January 17th 2007 15:28

I would LOVE some early CF bumpers! What sort of time frame and costs?

Jason

jrinlv January 17th 2007 23:26

It would take me two to four weeks to make the molds and a set of early bumpers. The cost would be around $380.00 a pair plus shipping.

I think the best thing to do is make the bumper/spoiler out of fiberglass and then splice in the 6-7" in the middle then pant it. Doing out of carbon, would be allot of work and wouldn't look to good. If you want fit and function then fiberglass spliced and painted is the way to go.

oasis January 19th 2007 22:44

Why not use a front bumper on the rear? It may not be enough for total coverage with fenders that are three inches wider but it may be enough extra in length to work effectively anyway. (Someone will have to measure for specifics.)

This dose work, people with wide rear fenders have been using front bumpers in the rear. I've been selling allot of people two front bumpers.

Bullyboy January 26th 2007 20:40

CCC 1.1/4" wider rear fenders with stock front bumper
Most people have no idea they are wider than stock but they can't figure out how you got 7" deep dish rims on it:D

EDIT: I saw this ad during lunch. (I do not know the seller and have no connection with the ad other than its reporting).

LOL, that is an OLD picture of my car!

CarbonJoe: I am also interested in a bumper/spoiler combo.

Chisel86 February 1st 2007 15:17

I might be interested in it. Depends on the cash flow.:)

Wally February 18th 2007 16:35

Finally mounted my front 'spoiler' :

It only costed 15 euros :D

ECBug February 18th 2007 17:35

Wally, where did you find that spoiler?
I like it.,

Wally February 19th 2007 02:54

Psst: don't tell any-one, but its an early model Golf/Rabbit front lip ;)

Wally March 14th 2007 05:26

Just mounted with bolts and srews through the lowest part of the front apron. Used the original mounting holes in the spoiler for it. Needed to use self-threading screws for the fiberglass fenders, but other than that, its sooo easy by just looking at the part and your car..
Don't know about the GTI- deeper lip spoiler, but that may be too much spoiler for this mounting method. No experience with it.

bow March 14th 2007 08:23

ive been playing around with a rear spoiler on the front just moded a bit to fit

lowbox March 26th 2007 01:01

flat_iv March 30th 2007 12:00

Anyway, just for the record, that kit also includes a rear bumper cover. BTW my front cover does NOT have the "Sport GT" letters, so it may be a little less ricey (if any).
I really don't think it'll hurt aerodynamics, but it probably won't help either

Where did you get your bumper covers? I like the look but dont like the sportGT script on the front. I may have to order them over the phone in mexico and have them sent to AZ

Got them from a local accesory shop. They are made by automagic.
http://www.auto-magic.com.mx/ (in spanish) Probably memo imports sells them there, they have lots of stuff from the mexican market

However I'm removing them soon, it's fiberglass, and didnt resist a crash

There's a similar one made by airdesign, aka erebuni, which is much better quality (although I dont like the look). It's made out of urethane

hemitheus April 3rd 2007 15:45

Nice, thanks.

I also like the auto-magic one better. I would just need to fabricate a spoiler to go along with it.

rpdub April 13th 2007 18:35

Carbon Joe,
I would also be interested in your CF/Kevlar bumber set, if it's happening. I have a 65 body that I'm working with, but as long as I can get them mounted...
My fenders will be 2, or 3" wider than stock.

Chris Percival April 25th 2007 04:02

Here is a mine taking shape!

More info at fastbug.net..

jrinlv April 25th 2007 13:24

Wow that looks good, do you have any more pics? Thats a super right?

I have decided to cut my Kamei and use a plastic welding kit to use the scrap and make mounts on the backside so I can run it with no bumpers, mounting it right to the car. Good thing i got it cheap...JR

Chris Percival April 26th 2007 03:59

Yeah, its an '03..

I had wondered what a VW Funcup front spoiler would look like on a road car, then I found these pics:

http://www.barryboys.co.uk/submitted/SteelCity0181.jpg

I think it's a little OTT for a road car.

Apologies if these pics are a repost... :)

bow April 29th 2007 19:58

it looks out of place with no rear skirt as well as side skirts

1303R May 10th 2007 10:52

i'm sure that fun cup spoiler wouldn't look as bad if done right, car jus seams too much of a mix of styles.

here's my car, spoiler looks like it's based on a early 911. i'm using the big hole for a radiator, not fitted in this pic.

Wally May 10th 2007 15:04

I think that looks very well indeed. Matching almost perfectly to the super body!

JIMP May 10th 2007 16:30

Hello 1303R

is that spoiler from Kerscher or am I mistaking?

Cheers

JIMP

punchbuggyracer May 10th 2007 23:49

on the GWD web site the is a black beetle with a great front spoiler anyone know were this one can be purchased?

1303R May 11th 2007 04:03

hey, my front bumper/ spolier came from a company that has now shut down. i had to widen it 4 inch's and also reshaped top to flush fit it.

That funcup front is amazing. I have been searching high and low on the net trying to find sumn like this. Although i do agree the sides and rear need something to tie it all in together.
