Hmmmmmm...
Is it the hood?

side-veiw mirrors?

doors or door handles?

Tranny?

Rear-veiw mirror?

Any of these, I'm kinda curious?

John

hybrid_john November 29th 2003 22:44

I forgot...

dash, pedals, stick shift, steering wheel, center consol, decklid,...?

how about any of these?

John

boygenius November 30th 2003 12:11

I have already seen the decklid on a beetle. The tranny was done in a subaru powered standard from Austrailia. I think I can remember seeing the door handles and side view mirrors on a bug but I can't be sure. Now you got me thinking.:silly: :silly:

hybrid_john December 1st 2003 01:14

I think I already metioned it, huh? But if I didn't here goes some more...

Dome light,
rear spoiler,
turn signal switch,
shift knob,
light knob,
window regulators,
seat belts,
floor mats,
suspension,
trailing arms,
brakes,
brake lines,
axles,
gas tank,
window washer bottle,
power steering pump and/or accesories,
arm rests,
dash trim,
side markers,
horn,
wire harness,
third brake light,
power window button....

How about the McDonalds bag found under the passenger seat of a 993 that you saw....I'm pretty much out of ideas?!?!?!?!!!

Just tell us!!!!

John:silly:

boygenius December 1st 2003 03:53

How about grafting the whole roof onto a beetle.:silly: That would be the next step after chopping the top.;) I've never seen that done before.

vujade December 1st 2003 10:14

Ive seen a beetle body grafted onto a 911 chassis.
So maybe its a 911 body on a beetle chassis? Ive never seen that.

Angelo Amato December 1st 2003 13:31

I'll post a pic later - BUT REMEMBER WHERE YOU SAW IT FIRST !!

boygenius December 1st 2003 13:44

How about a complete 911 front end from in front of the doors foward grafted onto a beetle body. You would get all the good suspension and brakes. Am I getting closer.

Angelo Amato December 1st 2003 15:30

NO

it's not thata big deal really - just a 'detail' thing really...

hybrid_john December 1st 2003 16:03

Well....It's certainly something I've never seen before!
It's not very noticable, until you get close to them, or until you notice that they are extremely long compared to the stock wiper arms. I like the look, no offence I think that they look like bug antennai to me, which, when you think of it makes sense (get it ;) ). It is unusual and very rare, GOOD JOB man.:D

I'm sure there shold be a few about in the salvage/wreckers yards.

Rob.

hybrid_john December 6th 2003 16:08

S Type huh?!? I dont really recall on what they look like, but it sounds interesting, I'll check it out...

Thanks for the suggestion man:D

hybrid_john December 6th 2003 16:42

WOW! Those look nice, the style is similar to the VW Lupo though huh? I still havent decided on what conversion I might do yet but I'll keep the Stype lights in thought...

Thank You for the pictures they help my memory:)

John

vujade December 7th 2003 08:53

I always thought the S type lights would look good in a ghia. especially if you were able to contout the hood behind the lights just like on the Jag...

boygenius December 7th 2003 12:09

What about modifying some H-4 headlights to accept projector beam lights. You could have the exotic look with bolt in simplicity. Two maybe three lights per side and you could paint the inside of the bucket boby color for the custom look. I geuss they would look like the WRX rally lighs but at a fraction of the cost. Just a thought.;)

Panelfantastic December 8th 2003 14:09

SCORE!

(they're not for me, I bought'em for a buddy, to use in his bug... BUT, I am gonna see how they fit in the bus!:D )

randyj December 8th 2003 14:18

My question is how do you make sure that when you graft different lights to a fender that the light will point down the road correctly and not up into on comming traffic?

Randy

boygenius December 8th 2003 14:19

Nice set of lights.:D

You could try to get the adjusters from the donar car you got the lights from. You could make your own adjusters. You could just raise or lower the front of your car untill they point in the correct direction.:silly:

If you could get them in the bus with the beam pointing the correct way I think that will make an even greater talking point than your Ecotec Turbo.

I can't wait to see if they fit ;)

S type HEADLIGHTS on E-Bay

Heres a set of S type head lights on e bay a little cheaper than the Mini set.

Rob.

hybrid_john December 8th 2003 17:25

Panel: those lights would look so good on MY bug;) . I'm jealous, so how do they fit? any problems? how many inches do they stick out in the back?

dubbin: Those lights would be pretty difficult to graft onto the bug, bug I'll still keep my mind goin on em.

I might do the mini cooper s lights, I've been wanting to do them for a while or might stick with my 993 plan. I found a pair of halogen headlights on ebay, but i'm looking for Litronic one just like em, I found them once before but haven't seen a set since then.

Check em out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710

GOD! that's a long address, how can I shorten them up for next time?

John

Panelfantastic December 8th 2003 18:33

Thanks Rob. Part of the deal for using me to buy them was my buddy had to give me unlimited access to seeing if they fit the bus before he starts trying to fit them in his '61 bug.

John, soon as they get here I'm gonna take pics so everybody can see what kind of fit problems there would be.

The way I see it, you would have to measure the angles and height off the ground that the lights sit on the donor car. The only way they would point in the correct direction is if they sit spacially in the same place as on the original. When you do have to adjust new cars' headlights, you need to get a special tool and grid panel from the factory that's set up in front of the car to set the beam path in the exact direction specified by the manufacturer. My friend had an Eclipse that he replaced the headlamps in, only to find out they were pointing too high up (he got a few tickets for it, too). He couldn't do anything about it until the manufacturer finally sent him the correct adjustment tools. You can't use a screwdriver alone on these newer lamps anymore, not like good ol' stock VWs!

oasis December 10th 2003 08:02

I can't believe this hasn't been done already but I haven't seen it yet: Gnu Beetle headlights. I mean, I've seen Gnu Beetle taillights; I've seen Gnu Beetle other body parts.

Also, some of the previous suggestions seem to focus on the main headlight when the original is part of a headlight group. Won't breaking up a set hinder its function? Is there an intent to put the "other" lights into the front lid?

hybrid_john December 11th 2003 00:14

Panel: I can't wait man... tel the shipping people to hurry up.

so did any one like the 993 lights? The litronic looked much nicer, but cost a TAD bit more!:D

John

boygenius December 11th 2003 02:27

I like the 993 lights. Did you like my idea for putting projector lights in a stock headlight housing?:)

hybrid_john December 11th 2003 23:48

genius: your idea was very interesting, I liked it a lot. Sorry I didn't let you know in the beginning:( :) ! I would really like you to elaborate on that idea some more....maybe some details on what size of lights and how you would possition them in the housing.

I'll be waiting!:D

John

boygenius December 12th 2003 00:22

I'll head off to the garage with my dremal and see what I can come up with.;)

hybrid_john December 13th 2003 00:30

Can't live without a Dremel.
I'm anxious to se how they turn out. I really anxious because of the cost (CHEAP!!:D), and that fact that you wouldn't have to do any body work to make them fit!

post some pics if you can!

John

boygenius December 13th 2003 02:56

I'll have to see what I can find in my storage unit this weekend. I've got a very busy schedule this week. I have to house sit for my friend this week. Free homemade beer, 12.8% alcohol.:yummy: Free cable. Am I lucky or what. I'll see if I can get to the lights.;)

hybrid_john December 13th 2003 15:33

Sounds like you got it made man...:D what else could you ask for?
No hurries though, take time on this one, and it should turn out pretty nice.

Frank December 15th 2003 18:45

Hi!

I'm new to this forum, I was wondering, since you are talking about alternative headlamps, if you ever saw the Wizard Roadster with Mercedes headlights, pretty neat. I asked them if they sell the fenders for this conversion, they told me that they didn't but it's an easy conversion with minor bodywork. I attached a picture of the Vdub with those headlights.

hybrid_john December 16th 2003 22:16

Frank: What class Mercedes are the headlights from? I would like to know, could you post a picture of the lights so we all can see what they look like?:D
