Where did the carbon fiber bumpers and side vents come from? They look nice. Love the color combo.

70Turbobug October 5th 2011 05:08

Thatīs what GL is supposed to look like! Fantastic! Itīs even got the wheels Iīve always wanted...lucky you!

Jim Andritsakos October 5th 2011 09:03

Very nice car... What about drivetrain combo specs ?

Sandeep October 5th 2011 12:26

Looks tough ... great job !

dave forder October 5th 2011 16:48

Thanks for the comments. The engine will be a autocraft fuel injected 2332 turbo. Heads are superflows with a water jacket (so I can up the boost on the street). A huge holset turbo sitting behind me where the back seat used to be. Should be good for a whole lump of hp. Gearbox is a Porsche 915 (just had a Quaife lsd fitted so that I can steer the car on the back wheels)...ha ha.
Wheels are cargraphics 8.5 x 18 front 225/30s and 10 x 18s rear 265/35s. Wings are 4cm oversize Kerchers fronts and 6cm Remmele carbons on the rear.
Bumpers and running boards are both widened Remmele items that meet the arches perfect (although we had to cut and shut the rear wings to get the perfect fit).
All the body prep and fitting together was done by myself and it took forever but my labour's cheap. The paint inside and underneath is as good as on top. The paint is absolutly stunning. It flips about in certain lights.
Thanks to Dan Simpson and the lads for the lift of the body onto the chassis.

Great car. How is this type of drilling done, with the edge tapered in? Considering doing this to the fenders on my bug to relieve the pressure under the fenders (not a show car, just autocross car).

owdlvr October 11th 2011 14:40

Those holes are most likely done with a "Punch and Flare Tool".

Thanks for the comment. You will have to use the flaring tool. It is a bit tricky to use on curved edges though but the back of the front wings should be ok.

Humble October 18th 2011 13:45

That is a stunning car so far and I can't wait to see it finished. I'd love to give it a good flogging and see what it's made of :D

aircured October 18th 2011 20:36

Dave,

What size alloys and tyres you running, also what offset are they?

The wheels are Porsche Cargraphics fonts are 8.5 x 18 et 47. Rears are 10 x 18 et 43. Tyres are 225/30/18s front and 265/35/18s rear. The wheels come in a lighter colour of silver so I took them all apart and had them painted a darker silver to match all the carbon on the car....should I have gone gold centre?? That would go with the body colour (maybe I could change that at a later date)...hmmmm.

The carbon fibre parts on the car were from Remmele but that was a few years ago (not sure if they are still trading, tried to ring them for weeks but no joy). The interior parts were custom cut by me using templates. The dash is a CPS item and fits pretty well. For your interest I have found a company in the UK that does top quality over-wraps of carbon and I had my door handles, bonnet handle and boot lid lock done and the quality was top notch. It even fooled a few people at the Volksworld show whilst I was listening to their comments. LA Performance does some good carbon stuff as well.

I agree, Cal lookers and BRMs are everywhere at shows. Bring on the German look.

Dub_Life October 30th 2011 05:37

Thanks for the info on the carbon fibre, I'll look into the side scoops from LA performance. So the door panels where cut from carbon sheet, can I ask what you used to fix them to the doors because I can't see any screws and I really like the clean look yours has.

Also with your roll cage is it completely bolt in in the rear, was this a custom made item or available as a kit some where?

All panels are velcro'd on using self adhesive velcro - (it good stuff for a rattle free clean look). I've used all the original door pull armrests, winder handles and door openers so that it all screws and bolts on to keep the panel in position. The roll cage is a bolt in alluminium adjustable set up from heigo in Germany for Kafer 1200/1300 - 1302/1303 (check out their website). When you bolt it in you can torque flex it outwards by turning the knurled ends. I had mine polished but you can have any colour anidised. Being Ali not the strongest of cages but when its torqued together its rock solid. Hope this helps.

I'd like to know more about that drysump pump!

TSAF June 17th 2012 04:15

I d like to know more about the whole think

dave forder June 20th 2012 13:01

Wally,
Thanks for posting the pics. You're a star!
The turbo we are using is a modified truck turbo. There are a load of numbers on the exhaust housing and bearing housing but not sure of the exact model. John tested a similar spec motor using this model turbo and it made in the region of 460hp with very little lag and it is rated to 600hp. Personally I am a little bit concerned about the air filter looking a bit wimpy on such a large turbo. J Maher said that they use these on high powered Jap turbo motors, it is just that space is a bit tight. John will do a dyno run with and without the filter and we will see. He is susposed to be testing on the dyno this week so we should have some figures.

dave forder June 20th 2012 13:04

Although it looks flashy the pump is a single stage Autocraft pump. No drysump on this lump.

dave forder June 20th 2012 13:17

Deano,
Motor not in the car yet. Hoping to have it tested this week. Still loads to do before Spa. I think if I am at Spa it will be on a trailer as I won't be able to get many miles on it beforehand. Jobs left to do include fitting the engine in the car (it has been in there before so everything lines up but it is doing it without scratching the paint up), total re-wire of the car. Doesn't sound like a lot but getting it all running just right will be tight in the timescale we have got. See you there.

Remmele Motorsport

Any chance of some help? I need to contact Remmele regarding some parts. I have phoned the numbers listed on their website and also emailed them - I can't get any joy. I can't even leave a message on the telephone number that they give. I want to put some business their way but can't get hold of them. Thanks.

As far as I know, contacting them is indeed extremely difficult. Not sure if anybody can help you with that during or after a transaction. I only know of Mark who comes there now and then.
