Caribbean German Looker

Hi everyone! It had been 5 to 6 years since my last post here.Let me show my
1303. This car had been in our house since new, I get it when I was at high school. Then I went to college and post graduate studies on it. It stopped to be my daily driver in 1997, when I began to transform it until 2005. Since then I had not worked on it until last week!

Hi

Sweet car, where are you located?

Steve

NO_H2O August 30th 2010 19:55

Nice ride. Cruising in the Caribbean air in that will be cool.

Lazarus August 30th 2010 20:26

orange is the only way to go. very nice, i was checking it out over on shoptalk earlier. i agree with NoH20 rolling that thing in the sea breeze would be sweeet.

onixbonilla August 30th 2010 20:28

Thanks for the words! I live in Puerto Rico. Believe it or not Steve, but you were the one who bring me to the German Look! How? The 1303 was to be built as a Sleeper, then a late night in 1997 I was searching the net when link after link I ended on your page. After that I never looked back!!!:D

Pablo August 31st 2010 02:41

Wow what a stunning colour! What you have done so far looks great.

Hi

I'm glad that I had that influence on you, you certainly have jumped in the deep end. What are your plans for the motor, it looks like it will stop and handle well

I'm thinking about doing my new 1303 in Orange as well.

Steve

ricola August 31st 2010 14:06

Very nice, got the stance just right I think... How wide are those wings? Is there a radiator hiding behind that grill up front?

volkdent August 31st 2010 15:13

Wow! Welcome back!!! I havn't seen your name on here forever, was shocked to see it, glad your back on it.

Thanks! Well the engine was bought before the German Look. It is a 86x90.5 from Gene Berg. Then the look came and received a little of it. Here is a picture of it. But right now I installed the original 1600 so I can work on the suspension and brakes polishing.

Hi Ricola! The front are 2.5 inches and the rear 3 inches. The front grill/hole was for the condenser of the air. Not sure if I will finally use it.

Had been a little since I resume the work on the 1303. Had not been able to do much. A lot of cleaning, adjusting and electrical work. At least is moving now. Some pictures of it after the cleaning and a couple of bits I received.

A piece of art!!! Great Job!

B-rock January 7th 2011 17:52

What kind of mirrors are those?

NO_H2O January 7th 2011 19:27

Looks like it is coming together nicely. I'll second the mirrors.

onixbonilla January 8th 2011 12:53

Thanks for the compliments. Still a lot of work to do.
The mirrors were bought around 10 years ago. Really
not remember the name, but were cheap. They look similar
to the Vitaloni Sebring. If not wrong I get those from a
Mini Truck magazine.:)

Xellex January 8th 2011 16:30

they look exactly like the opel manta ones. Only the mounting bracket is a little bit different.

dub_crazee January 8th 2011 16:33

very funky!!

onixbonilla January 10th 2011 22:21

Here is a picture of the rear 993 TT brakes and MBT Uniball. As you may notice it lacks a good dose of detailing!

Here a shot of front 993 TT brakes, custom coilovers, custom camber plates and custom caster plates.

ricola January 11th 2011 14:11

How do the caster plates work for you, do you have any problems with them slipping? I'd thought about something similar but that was my worry...

Rich

onixbonilla January 11th 2011 20:58

Hi Ricola! Your Cab is coming very, very good looking!
With all the mixed parts I used on the front suspension it ended with
a lot of positive caster, so I made those plates. Right now is spot on.
Really after the plates had not drive to much on street, but not problem yet. If I detect slippage I will build a not slidding/adjustable clamp.

strokeit January 12th 2011 16:51

Hello Mate.
Just checked out your ride, very nice indeed, keep up the good work:)
Cheers.
Dan.

Last week the 1303 was at Flower Power show! Here is a peek of it.
See more pictures at the section Events and Calendar of this website!

Steve C April 7th 2011 23:18

Hi

I couldn't find it in your post, what size wheels are you running?

Steve

onixbonilla April 8th 2011 10:47

Hi. Those are IForged Essen 20x10 and 20x8 custom offset.

Steve C April 8th 2011 20:56

Hi

I've never seen 20s work has well as they have on your car.

The cars with 20s often looked jacked up or like a paying mantis.

Getting the stance on the front makes it look right I think, the top of the tyre is up inside the fender/wing/mudguard lip that's what does it.

Steve

onixbonilla April 8th 2011 22:09

Thanks Steve. You are right, how good a car looks depends on the stance. The relation of fenders/tire and rake front/rear makes or destroy it. I build the front 8 inches wide, but should build them 7 and reduce the front lip. So the front tire would be farter from the fender lip and the car front could be pushed down more. Also the the Spoiler helps on this.

Here you can see a car with 19inches at the same show.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5267/...34526af4_b.jpg

Mine with 20inches, I reckon 19inches at front would make it look better.

Hi

Hate to knock other peoples cars but the tyres on that blue bug don't seem right, maybe the profile of the tyre is to too high.

Steve

volky00 April 13th 2011 23:41

Great job , love the stance. really nice color and wheels.
greetings from santo domingo. dominican republic.

Xellex April 14th 2011 07:49

man, your car is amazing! One of the cars on this forum, that I just can't stop staring at the pics of it :)
I was wondering what is the front tire dimension on the 20inch wheels? I guess I could use a taller tire in order to be able to install the kamei front spoiler... right now it would be hanging just too low.

Hi Steve! The front wheels are too wide to the fenders, so owner can not get down the nose. Tall tires not help too much!

Hi Xellex! You are not alone, me too!!! :D Thanks for the compliments!
I always like to read about your work because you do your work as I always used to do on mine. Buying parts, installing, modifying, etc!
My car suffered what you realized some time ago. With so many agresive modifications it ended been unpractical on the streets!
Right now will like to return some practicallity for the streets. Thinking of downsizing the wheels and more comfort suspension. So will like to know your experience with the LAPerformance struts?
The front tires are 225-30-20.:)
