my 03 rebuild

well i have started on the 03 race car rebuild, at last.
got the motor out last night and found the oil burning problem. one of the spiral locks had come out and scored the barrel pretty bad, no damge to the piston so new barrle ad thats that sorted. found the cuase of the oil leak, the bolt that goes into the case under the barrels had come lose and the oil was dripping out the hole.
got a few bits to go into the car for the rebuild inclueding a zf lsd for the gearbox :D
some new wings which are a bit narrower than the +4 that are on there which should cover the new 17" rims better.
passenger seat to go in and a bit of wiring so i can make it road legal.
biggest job will be sorting a new rear spolier out as the class i race in no longer allows rear wings so the F3 lola wing has to go and i need something on the rear to give me some down force. not quite sure what direction to go in yet, porsche style duck tail, 911 turbo style or a alloy wing like the big wig drag race ones.
these are the wheels i have

going on this car but the wings are changing

also going to redo the exhaust as its a bit to loud and need to get it below 100db if i can which is also why i'm going to be building a airbox for it.
got some work to do but hope to have it out in a few months and back on the road, then get back racing it.
cheers rob

some pic's of the strip down. think you can just see the damage to the bore  still not as bad as it could have been seeing as it gets revved to over 7000rpm.
looking forward to getting back out in it.

Original circlip that came loose?

Smaller trumpets are a little better for high rpm powerrr ;)

Wow, just looked at your build pics, what a rotter it was body wise. Thought mine was bad!! http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=514502

Certainly inspirational, saw it at Volksworld and loved every bit of it. Your dry sump pump looks like a home made job, any info?

no it was a sprial lock clip that came loose. the long trumpets didn't hurt the top end at all but gave a 30ftlb increase in torque across on the dyno.
not sure what i'm going to do about a rear spolier but it wont be any thing mounted on the deck lid as the deck lid mounts are not up to takeing the loadings, there designed to hold a light fiberglass one so wont take the loads of a spoiler.
Dry sump pump is a german one, cant rememeber who made it but got it from stateside tuning about 6 years ago.

gearbox out and lsd fitted, box now back in the car and everthing torqued up. bits ordered for the engine , new wings checked for fit and they clear the new rims. wings are of for paint now. looking into making some carbon fiber running boards for it as we have the moulds at work.

well a bit of a update.
still got some engine problems with it burning oil once hot, the new barrle i fitted just wont seal on the old rings so looks like a hone and a new set of rings needed.
the zf lsd works a treat, nice trailing throttle lock up and even black lines out of tight corners.
the dunlop wets i have fitted worked really well for the short dry hill climbs being nice and soft. they didn't move about as much as i thought they would being a very soft compoud with the wet cut on them, so happy with them.
so its engine back out and top end off so i can re ring it. then on with trying to sort every thing else out on it.
