Gear Ratios

Good morning, I have had a Quaife ATB for about 6 years now. Within the last year, I had a Rhino Case re-worked. I had gussetts added on the bottom, and Rimco also up-graded the bearing saddle area (I think that is what its called:o ). I had hoped to use the 3.44 ring and pinion, only to find out the the Quaife won't take the 3.44. So my only other option is to go longer/taller on all four gears. This trans is for freey way driving. I had a 2332 being used in a 1974 late gear box 3.88, however at 75 to 80 mph, the speed was to much for the trans. I need taller gears, can anyone suggest a gear maker out side of Wheedle? For all four gears, the total cost is alot on my old check book:shocked:

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I guess I just have to bit the bullet and buy from Weddle. Albins gear sells to Weddle, it really threw me a loop, when I foud out the 3.44 would not fit the Quaife ATB carrier:confused:

Have you looked at machining the quaife carrier? The 3.44 can't be that much different in size from a 3.88.

you might try to buy from albins directly or buy the albins gears from rancho to avoid any more over head. I can tell you from experience that a set of ebw gears from albins is $1550, but they are damn near bullet proof. I got my tranny through rancho any they were able to get it out pretty quickly.

ill back that figure from humble too, my albins gears were $1550 too, thats AUD mind you, so could be better/worse for your respective currency

Hi guys, thats a lot of legwork and cash for 3.88 to 3.44. would it not be prudent to look to taller tyres?

Hi Guys, its doable, i have the same problem for different reasons, i'll let you know nearer the time, for me 205/55/16 gets near enough, gives me 50mm extra for long circuits, we don't know what gears and radius effvee is running, i presume it has ratios in it, 1.04 top most likely ,but if I'm wrong and its a stock 0.89 top and your not happy, it may be time to be tough and say its the wrong box for the freeway and its a 5 speed you need.. good luck with it.

Curiosity, but where did you purchase the 3.44 ring and pinion?
