A tip for sealing 103mm cylinders!
1 Attachment(s)
We machine a lip into the head sealing surface of the 103mm cylinders, just a 1/10 mm (~0,004") thick, that's it. The lips will be pressed into the head while torqueing it to 45Nm (~33ft.lb.)
Take a look at the picture, you can see it in detail. |
Thats pretty trick! I've seen people machine a groove and press wirefeed welding wire into it. Supposedly it'll soften with heat..
I like your method better, only if I had a lathe! |
Do my 103 cylinders have that lip Oliver?

....
 Do you have 6 bolts per cylinder? Yes, so no need!
The pictured cylinders were for a 2,4l turbo engine, so he used both, lip and 6th studding! |
That is the fastest reply I have ever received from you Oliver! Where was this forum over the last two years? :) It would have easily cut 1.5 years off our transaction time!
I am hoping I can afford to buy the remaining longblock parts ( cam, oil pump, and a few others things) this years so I can start assembly of the 2599. It is killing me having the parts and no funding to continue! I had to pay for the final bill to you and purchase my new 65 beetle, and pay college fees, all the same time. On top of that, I'm losing my job because of the economy! sweet. . . Steve |
....
That's hard, but I'm sure you'll find something new!
Am I fast or what? harharhar!! |
