coilovers

i'm thinking of using qa1 promastar coilover for the rear of my 1302 my question is this what type of mounting eyelet should i use the one with a race bearings or the one with the poly bushings? the part number on the one with the poly bushing is DR4855P any advice would be much appreciated - thanks -John

Just depends on what sort of ride you're looking for. The eyelets are going to be harsh, no give at all, and the PU will give you a little reduction in road harshness.

Which model # are you going for? Have you sized up your requirements and mated it a particular length?

I will be doing the same.. got the idea from this fellow..

Let me know if the same,

bug@5speed i am going to go with the poly bushings and i will go with the same compressed and extended lengths as the person in the link. I'm not sure what rate spings i'm going to use i'm going to start at 300lbs (ricola is using that rate and his car will be simalar to mine) my car is going to have a 97' subaru wrx engine mated to a 915 trans i talked to jegs on the phone and they told me that you can use 1-7/8'' I.D. springs with the proma star shocks i'm going to call qa1 tomarrow and ask them. the part number for the shocks i beleive is DR4855P. -John

My old speedster replica used the 300lb springs with 915 and subaru engine.
My new 1303 cabrio is using a G50 with subaru engine

Neither are particularly close to your car if it is a 1302 with 915 and subaru...

I'm using double-adjustable QA1s with poly bushings up front, I don't remember what length quite honestly. I went through a couple of them before I settled on these.

Thanks for the kudos, it's been a long time coming, and a long time to go!

ricola yes your right im assuming your speedster replica is probably way lighter than my 1302. I don't know why i thought you had this comba on a beetle. is it a porsche 356 speedster replica? those are sick. so i'm assuming i need a higher spring rate. any suggestions? what have other people used?

mccarthy500 March 6th 2008 16:03

ricola are you using coilovers on the rear of the cabrio? if so then what spring rate are you using?

ricola March 7th 2008 16:37

yes, it was a 356 speedster replica, but I sold it years ago now:

I will probably use coilovers, but in addition to torsion bars. I will be cutting through the torsion housing, cutting the central piece in half through the spline and then rewelding them inside each side of the housing so I can use swing axle torsion bars. That's what Mark thurston did on his Oval with G50 trans. I'm sure I'll add sprigns to the rear coilovers too but probably only 100-200lb..

Turbo Haraune2 March 7th 2008 16:57

I have 450lbs springs if i recall correct. i tried 500lbs but it was to hard

mccarthy500 March 7th 2008 18:05

turbo what shocks are you using?
