GT Wheels

Are these considered GL? Well at least a little bit?
These are what I'm talking about except in a 15x5.5 and I'm just using these as and example.

I think my bug would look cool with them but in a silver or polished version.

fastdub February 8th 2007 09:39

nope

stock widened steelies are more GL

Veedub February 8th 2007 09:58

But theres a porsche version so :p

dont make em gl ;)

and im not sure there is

EvilAngel February 8th 2007 17:43

AFAIK those only came with special edition bugs. But i may be wrong...

Pillow February 8th 2007 17:50

I would not consider them GL either.

Actually I do not think they look good at all. PLus they are so skinny you cannot fit decent meats on them!

They were also available on the 914's. The 914's had a 41mm opffset, the ones for the beetle had a 27mm offset.:D Guy on thesamba told me.

EvilAngel February 8th 2007 22:28

That would mean the 914's are wider (right?) Other than the look, which shouldn't mind since your car isn't a strict GL, the problem is that they can only accomodate skinny tires, as mentioned above.

Well the ones for the 914 wont work on a bug at all. If skinny tires can only be runb on them Im not gonna go that route then.I was gettin a set of 4 for free.
15x5.5's but i wont now :laugh:But I dont understand why you couldnt run a wider tire on them, oh well.

Timmy_Barns February 8th 2007 23:41

Kinda off-topic, but are Fuchs considered GL?

I think they can be considered GL or CL, depending on whats done to the car, my car follows no look really

EvilAngel February 9th 2007 00:39

Yes Fuchs are GL since they are porsche, however the CL crowd also use them.

I think part of the confusion is the link has a pic of a 4½-inch wide wheel. I realize the pic is an example of the 5½-inch wide wheel you want and not the actual set of wheels themselves, but I needed to re-read the entire thread to be reminded of that. This sometimes happens as threads get extended into multiple posts.

Obviously, a 5½-inch wide wheel can accept wider tires than a 4½-inch wide stock model.

The 914 was a VW-Porsche joint venture. Only in America were they marketed as Porsche only. The wider wheels were available for the 914 and on some Volkswagen special editions with offset being the difference. I don't know the offset numbers but what the Samba source said rings true.

The difficulty with a stock bolt pattern is there are not very many German Look options available. And what is available is sort of borderline. Changing a stud pattern is an expense. Some are less expensive but a bare minimum would be considered inexpensive by most definitions.

Do what you have to do; do what you want to do within your parameters.

EvilAngel February 9th 2007 11:01

Well I know that 4 x 130 is not a common pattern, but i've chosen these:
http://prodynamics.com.mx/cart/image...cho-17_LRG.jpg
17 x 7 wheels, specially designed for a bug

Would you consider them GL?

nice wheels, that company make other wheels?
I only asked about the gt wheels because i was offered some for free but since wide tires cant be put on them i wont waste money to pay s & h for them.:D

EvilAngel February 9th 2007 11:20

They do, they're BBW brand (I know.... but that's how it's called)
http://www.bbwwheels.com/

That's one good thing about living in Mexico, great demand for bug specific stuff

i like the wheels on that site called Twister if there for the 4-130 though, of course I'm just gonna wait till i get my car repainted next year, harbor blue (the blue it is now)

EvilAngel February 9th 2007 11:34

They probably are made in 4 x 130. I havent seem them in that pattern though...

Pillow February 9th 2007 19:42

I would consider them more Import Tuner wheels.

BUT that is no problem. They look good so if you like them then rock em!

Veedub February 9th 2007 23:24

Evilangel, I emailed them to see if they would give me a list of rims that they carry that fit the 4-130 bolt pattern and asked for prices :D
Wonder how expensive shipping will be  they got a few rims i like, any other mexican rim company that provides wheels for bugs?:D

EvilAngel February 10th 2007 04:56

I know of anotherone but they only have one model and it's ugly.

Veedub February 12th 2007 17:36

oh ok. the wheel company hasnt responded, do they by chance no english, which I hope they do.

EvilAngel February 12th 2007 20:49

they probably dont. if you want you can send me via email or pm whatever you want to say and i'll translate it to spanish for you to send it. Also, you are probably better off buying from a distributor, as the company might not make any direct sales.
HERE is a link for a distributor. It's more likely that they speak engish.

Veedub February 12th 2007 21:00

Think I could possibly get a wheel from BBW through like Discount Tires, if there was a guy that knew the same language. Also the link you showed me ummm whats 6,500mx? sounds like alot  but in American its probably not as scary.

EvilAngel February 12th 2007 21:23

That's about 595 USD...

PM sent :D

Veedub February 12th 2007 21:29

thats for 4 rims right?

EvilAngel February 12th 2007 21:34

yes, for the 4 of them. And those are 17's, the 15's are cheaper.

Veedub February 12th 2007 21:39

then there not bad in prices then....but shipping will probably be killer

EvilAngel February 12th 2007 21:44

Yup. That seller i showed you, he is located in monterrey, somwhat near the US border.

Veedub February 14th 2007 22:12

Evilangel I like this look for my bug (ignore the hood)
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/6048/brmshopzx6.jpg

if I dont like how my bug looks lowered with my current wheels Im going with these Silver BRM's.

EvilAngel February 15th 2007 01:31

I think those BRM's match your color scheme, and your deck lid standoffs. Of course, this in the context of your car not being a GL. It looks good in it's own style.

Veedub February 16th 2007 00:20

Thanks, I think IM going to go with them, because I like them. There 139.95 in a add on TheSamba I think I seen, which I think is a good deal and there Silver, not grey which is a plus, because everyone seems to use the black or grey ones which I tried the photoshop on already and didnt like it.:D
I give 3 thumbs up for the silver BRMs.
