Hi,

I'd like to have comments about a modification I'd like to do (dream to do) :D .

This mod consist of putting 2000-2002 Mercedes-Benz W211 E-CLASS
(E320 E320W E430 E55) Euro clear projector headlights. They cost a lot but I think it would be worth it. I did a before and after using Photoshop so tell me what you think of it.

if that is too scale, they look way too big to me. just my opinion though.

I think you'll find the angulation is way off.

There was a Giha in one of the magazines a while ago that used Benz lights, looked good but a lot of work. I think your problem will be the depth of the lights into the fenders interfearing with the tire though.

I think your right, if you look at this picture it looks as though the light not only tilts back but is also cranked off to the left slightly (obviously the right hand head light will be cranked off to the right)

There are lots of different car manufacturers going with this concept, you will have to do like I do.... when driving about keep looking at different cars to find some insperation, word of warning though.... try not to take your eyes off the road for too long ;)

Hi and thanks for the comments

First of all the picture is not scaled and I did make a better version of it but I wasn't able to read after I saved it. :(

Also justdubbin, the picture included in your reply is from a 2003 Mercedes (or maximum late 2002), and the lights I took are from 2000-2002 E Class Mercedes Benz, you can also see them on some C class cars (CS 430 for example).

For these years the lights were not cranked off to the side. The lights I took are Factory replacement for 2000-2002 Mercedes E class that have the look of the 2003+ headlights, they are clear and have projector lights in it. There is a picture of them in this reply.

For the scale, I'll get it right next time, it just happens that my boss has a C430 AMG (V8 :D ) and I'm the one doing maintenance on it!!

Them headlights look superb in 6v wings.

Those head lights would be HELL to tackle without the right skills man! :D
If your serious about those headlights you better have patience with your car!

I have a 1302 and will be doing a headlight conversion (undecided as of yet) and actually as I work on my current project now (69 standard) I am thinking about keeping the headlights stock...you can always get tricked out 7" headlights I am using a set of blakc headlights on the 69 its gonna look sick man!

GOOD LUCK!

Hi again, here is a second attempt that is a lot better than my first one. The proportions seems right. It would probably look better on wider front fenders.

hybrid_john December 31st 2004 21:31

It looks good! They are a little big though...how deep are they?

think of tire clearance!

For this mod, I don't think this would be suitable for post 67 standard Beetle (the ones with smaller headlights) and even less suitable for Super Beetle.

For the level of difficulty, it would be a lot of trouble doing it on a steel fender. I'd rather do this on a fiberglass fender, I have no metal working skills but have good skills in FG, my prensent project is restoring a Jeep CJ7 that has used fiberglass tub and one piece front end, both were damaged when bought and are now almost completely repaired.

I guess it wouldn't be impossible for me to create a FG fender mold 2 inch wider with the extension starting from the attaching point of the fender meaning there would be no extra lip on the fender. This would be a great project!!

For the depth, I'll have to mesure that on my boss car (CS430). I'll also have to convince him, since there would probably be some dismantling to do and get the mesure right.

My buddy is scrapping his project and will have a set of mini cooper S lights up for sale real soon. He paid top dollar for them and I expect he'll take a beating on the re-sale... I think he paid in the neighborhood of $600.
I did some of the preliminary test fit for him, it was looking like a LOT of work and depth was going to be close, especially on big wheels.
