Body trolley
 

Hi

I need to make a trolley to transport my 1303 body shell. I need a couple of features.
1. Must be height adjustable, painters don’t like bending.
2. Must be able to be wheeled around easily.

So does anyone have plans or photos of what they did with their body?

Hi Steve,

1) give the painters a milk crate or a few to stand on if they need to get higher, or other wise, take the body of the trolley.
Cheaper and easier to do as the body is so light.

2) get metal castor wheels so that they don't flat spot.

I found a 1/2 made one at V Force that I can use. Wheels can be a pain in the @#% as the car tends to move around when its being worked on. So I think I will go for something like a jack stand with tubes and pins.

Good to hear you've got something to start with.

For the wheels go to a tool or fastener supplier like Coventry's if the local hardware store doesn't have them

Not a real good pic Steve-made it from some left over 150mm 'C' channel from my Carport job.Used some short pieces of 40mm galv angle to hold it together and made some risers to use the outside holes where the body bolts under the back seat and the 2 front 10mm bolts each side where the body bolts to the pan.Used 4 80kg wheels-2 fixed and 2 swivels with locks.It was real easy to push around,but the 2 lockers didn't work so well,so just chocked with a piece of wood.I could load it onto the trailer by myself-pushed it up close,bent down and got the front wheels(fixed ones) up onto the trailer,then just picked up the arse end on each corner of the rear panel and walked it forward.I drilled 4 holes in each corner to fit a 'D' shackle,so it was easy to tie off once loaded on the trailer.It could be easily picked up sideways with a Fork and the paint shop wheeled it over their small scissor lift to get higher.I was going to make some 50mm slide in tubes with a 45 and a 90 so it could be turned on it's side at 45 or right over on it's side.Maybe for the next one.Good thing now it takes up bugger all room to store it-just tied it up to the fence.

Thanks for the photos. All going well I'm taking it about 500 ks from home, so I will need a trolley that can sit on a trailer at high speeds & on bumpy roads etc. Sydney is too expensive for paint & panel, been quoted 8-10,000 down here.

I took mine to Adelaide twice on that trolley-400ks and not a problem.Only used rope to hold it-have got those ratchet tie downs now-would have been a lot easier to tie off.

I'm going to use my friends car trailer to transport the shell, its a single axle trailer with a tilt, it tows great, it has a full checkerplate floor, I'm going bolt the body trolley directly to the floor so my Scouting skills wont be tested, after its painted I will take the chassis to it and drop the body on. I'm getting a little ahead of myself at the moment, I still finishing of the firewall, then I need to fit up a few other thinks so that all the holes are drilled before its painted.
