Hi not been on here for ages so happy new year and a huge thanks to all those responsible for keeping this site alive.

Now my question I am trying to fit an autometer speedo to my 03 I have 944 front hubs any suggestions and help would be appreciated :)

Silly question, is your speedo electronic?

Drill a hole in grease cap. Use the VW cap as guide for hole size (a small file can square the corners of hole)

If your spindle is drilled for a an abs sensor you can use the abs sensor by grounding one wire and running the other to the speedo. Did that for the race car and it works perfect.

Does your speedo use a electronic conversion module from the stock bug speedo cable? ;) I was going that route, but I have something WAY OVER THE TOP now! :D (will show in a few months)

Hi sorry for the delayed response,I have no module , at he moment I just have the electronic auto meter speedo ,I am planning on using the auto meter sender with that fitted to the front 944 spindle. I am assuming they make a cable to connect the two together .

Hi Humble ,just looked at your post again re, the abs sender that sounds like a plan. Sorry for that I have just read that again today, I think I miss read that the other day,thanks for your help guys. :)

You might consider this Electric Speed Ring .
I got the one I am using from Desert Craft but the web site is down.

Interesting this one. Whether to take the signal from the front (undriven) wheel or to take it from the CV. On balance I would have thought it better to use the undriven wheel since it can only go at road speed unless it is airborne. The driven wheel has the potential that it can spin or actually be stationary with no drive with an open diff. The abs ring on the front wheel seems the best of the options. The undriven wheel is the typical location for the sensor for the Halda style trip computers used in most rally cars (4 wheel drive excepted) so it seems to be the logical location.

i built my speed sensor on my left outter CV joint
front wheel driven would be fine for speedo only but presently mine is for the engine management but i have a digital speedo in the works so will be for both eventually

the main reason i built it on the CV joint aside from ease of install is some subaru ECUs go into limp mode on dynos if the engine is at full throttle but the speed sensor isnt turning

Rally cars run them on the undriven wheels (when that's an option) purely because wheel spin upsets the distance travelled and thus the notes between driver and co-driver. On AWD cars you can basically run them on any corner, though depending on your diff setup Front is still 'best'.

Regardless, thanks DWP (Dave) that CV ring / mount is exactly what I wanted to find for my project :D
