Pressure plate issue?

Morning all, finally got my 2165 type4 that I've been waiting on for 2yrs and 3 months. Seems to align properly, but theres a quarter inch gap before it's secure. When it's tightened, the the pressure plate is compressed. Loosen it and seems ok. Anyone had this issue before. Has a turbo box lowbudget turbo trans an a steel bugging turnkey engine. Thanks, Erwin

Nope, never had that before.
Maybe new style trans with the guidance sleeve, but used a pressure plate with the old style throw out bearing attached to diafragm of the pp or vice versa?
However, we could be guessing all day what (mixed) parts were used (and the limited info) that causes this of course...

What does the supplier of the engine and trans have to say in this?

I think Wally is onto it. Make sure the Pressure Plate center ring has been removed if you have the sleeve style T/O bearing.

Sleeve style? The late modle type1 style? Did not check to see if there was anything on the pressure plate before installing the engine. Assumed it would be correct, but nothing has been that was so far. Guess that's why it aligns properly and without any binding but stops about a quarter of an inch before it's flush with the trans. Has a springy filling that last little bit. Should have it removed by Saturday. Thanks.

If it has a stage 1 pressure plate. They come with the early T/O bearing ring on them so it can be used with both style bearing setups. If you have a late style bearing the ring must be removed before you install the engine.

Yep, y'all were right. The builder built it as a 70 and has the ring on the pressure plate. Good call!! Will I be able to remove the ring or just buy a new stock type4 pressure plate?

You should be able to remove the ring. You will have to pull the split coil retainer from inside the pressure plate and the ring will pull out.
