Towing a 1302

Good afternoon, can anyone answer a question on flat towing a 1302 Super Beetle. I have towed my vehicle several times. On each occasion, when I get my destination, my tires are ruined due to the steering not following the tow bar. There must be something that I'm doing wrong.

The steering is free to turn, can it be the amount of pre-load on the sector shaft in the gear box? If I were to tow this vehicle 70 miles, the tire will blow out due to cord separation. Can anyone offer a fix?

Ive flat towed 100s of kms, no issue. I leave key in 'on' due to column lock and obviously tranny in neutral (and battery disconnected). I think you may have a tight steering box that is fighting the front end from self steering.

Good morning, yeah that's what I think also. The next time I tow it, before I tow, I'll make the adjustment.
