944T Rear Brembos on an 84NA hub/disk
 

I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't use a 944T 94mm bolt spaced rear caliper with the earlier NA disk and hub, but I can't find it.

Do you need to run 944T disks on the early NA hubs to make use of the 944T caliper? Everything bolts up fine as is.

Any pointers much appreciated.

The disk width's do not match. The 944T rear caliper works with a 24mm wide disk, while the 944NA front rotor is 20.4mm wide. Your best bet is to use a Boxster front rotor (24mm) with the 944T rear caliper.

86 only 944t rotors. 24mm

The hubs have to match the rotor. So, with the early hubs you can only do the early NA rotors. The 86T front rotor (28mm)will bolt to the early NA hubs, but because of the offset difference on the hubs, the rotor will be way too far inboard and will foul on the steering arm of the spindle.

Why not just keep it all the same (ie Turbo front rotor with turbo front caliper and matching hub)?

The other option is late 944 hub (87+) with boxster (1st gen) rotor and 944/993 rear T caliper in the front.

I should have specified this is for the rear of the car, not the front.

The fronts are all 944T with Lanners kit. Its just the rears that use the 944NA hub, and I want to use the 944T rear calipers to have the same look 4 pot calipers all round.

That clears thing up. In retrospec, I should read the titles first....sorry.

Use a 86 (only) T rear rotor, 86+T rear caliper. Everything bolts up, and typically need a small spacer (about 3mm) to center the caliper on the rotor. The later (87+) rear T rotors have a different center bore, so they technically fit but then the centering of the rotor is only done by the setscrews; not the ideal situation. The 86T rear rotor is the only one with the correct center size for the early NA hub.

A little late in the conversation, but you can use the boxster s rear rotor, and then you don't have to worry about the 3mm spacer.

With the 944T rear rotor on a 944NA rear setup, you need a 3mm spacer and longer caliper bolts. With the Boxster S rotor, you don't need the spacers. Both rotors will work with the 944T rear caliper and the 944NA brake shoes and hardware.

The Boxster S rotor that I mocked up and works with the early NA backing plate is pn:986.352.403. The brakes shoes end up 'just' flush with the 'drum' surface (laterally speaking). No spacers are required to centralize the caliper.

The 86T rotor is 951.352.041. You will need 3mm shims and longer bolts to centralize the caliper.

As a shameless plug:D , I now offer hardened washers and longer grade 10.9 bolts for the job. About $C18.
