915 best year choice

Looking to hook up a Subie to a 915 tranny in a 1600 lb. kit car. What would be the best year to use? Gearing? Mostly looking at sporty performance and a nice freeway flyer. (okay, the occasional smoky burnout... ) :D

hi , choose one from 76 on as these are pull to realease(clutch) idealy later the better, my fisrt install was a mag cased push to realease , nightmare on elm street , until we hydrauliced the clutch, and made a realease arm from a vw unit and porsche unit. my 2 other cars feature 78 box and 87 box. good luck you will not be dissapointed the a 915. all the best lee L.A.P

hi rich, is your car LHD??????........ if not your in trouble, all our cars are LHD its easy to put next to brake master cylinder in LHD car and make bracket similar to the way the brake pushrod works , phone me mate and ill talk you through it, all the best Lee L.A.P

Mine's RHD... :( I don't really want to replace the other pedals as the brake master is nice with the 996 brakes... Do you think there is enough space between the tunnel and brake m/c if I do some tweaking?

You may want to consider the size of the CV's as well. I have made many posts regarding this. Just do a search..

@Lee: You made a release arm from a 915 and a VW unit: Interesting: did the weld hold up???
Tnx,
Walter
