getting the most camber from a STD type 1
Other than the more eccentric camber caster adjusters available how can camber be maximized on a standard ball joint front-end? What are you guys running as far as caster and camber settings?
Currently running: CB dropped spindles Weld-in torsion spring adjusters Caster shims Eccentric camber/caster adjusters |
Hi
Guys down here get the top arms bent for more camber. Be careful with too much camber, under brakes you'll only be using part of your tyre. Steve |
that's a pretty good idea. how do they measure howmuch they bent the arm? do they heat them up?
|
Hi
They don't heat them, its a controlled bend in a press. Steve |
It was a long, long time ago... But I think I bent my upper arms 10mm inwards

what did you use to bend the arms? long pipe over the trailing arm ends? do you know how much camber 10mm gave you? this sounds like an opportunity to break out the tape measure and the trigonometry. |
This is something you *can* do in your garage, but I would recommend using either a modified break or a hydrolic press. Heating the metal will change its strength and brittleness, so that's not recommended on a stock piece. Of course you could fab your own arms out of DOM if you wanted, then you could simply use a tube bender. That wouldn't be too hard, just time consuming.

A big, hot, gas-axe flame. Yes, yes, I know about changing metalurgy etc but we got each upper arm cherry red, then bent them with a big piece of tube slipped over each arm held in a vice... That was about 200,000km ago |
