Watercooled Porsche engines
I read that the 996, Boxster etc. flat 6 watercooled engine is 3-4" shorter in length than the aircooled equivalent. Was just wondering if that means now that it might actually fit into a bug? It is also more square in shape
Anyone have any ideas about the water cooled engines' gearbox compatibility with aircooled boxes as well I almost bought an engine a while back but thought better of it as I guess it still may not fit Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers |
Hi
Im pretty sure that they use different bolt pattern for mounting. How amazing is that VW & Porsche had shared the same mounting bolt pattern for all these years. Steve |
A bit old of a thread, but Steve is right. The engine case is common for the 964, the 993, and the 996 Turbo (and gt2/3). All of these are dry sump engines, and share a common bolt pattern. The naturally aspirated 996 and 997 (and their Boxster equivalents use a different (but common among themselves) bolt pattern.
