Type 4 2.7lt cooling
 

I just finished my 2.7lt type 4 running a scat crank, carillo rods and chevy forged pistons. The compression ratio is 13:1. Will a normal type1 cooling system be enough or do I need to go for a porsche type setup when running with 102 octane fuel?

My previous engine ran on 100% menthanol, the menthanol helped with the cooling so I was able to drive the car without any fan housing.

you will find a bunch of info here and on STF on the subject. some objective, some not. i have gone based on research and facts as much as possible. ran two systems and where i LOVE the looks of the 911 fan, i went with the better performer...a DTM.

A DTM will help, but cast iron cylinders (if cast iron), are the limiting factor, so don't expect much in the area of engine life. But I assume that's not a big deal considering it looks like a drag or race engine only based on it's fuel requirements. Is that the case?

whew! at 13:1 You'll have head leaks with iron cylinders before it ever fires up without serious mods!

For that application I wouldn't think about doing any way other than with Nickies!

I want to use the engine in a toy. Drag racing every now and again, stuff like that.

Funny enought there is no cylinder leaks... guess I'm just lucky.

Look harder, or give it a little bit of time...

Fill you chambers with air and use a flame around the OD to look for leaks. When they start, they get big fast
