Need a driver this Saturday!
Anyone have time to roll up to Sault Ste Marie with me Saturday?
I’m on the night shift this week, so plan on rolling out right after work - 7-8am. Drive straight to the Soo, and look/purchase another vehicle. If purchased, roll both back to Toronto same day. Anyone up for it? I plan to sleep in the car for the first few hours after work in the morning. So you’ll drive my car (super sweet and comfy leather’d Golf TDI ) on the way up for a bit, and will most likely drive my sled back to Toronto while I follow. My friend that was supposed to help me, just backed out due to WIFE issues. Any takers? Pete |
Pete, I don't have much going on Saturday. If you don't get any other takers, I may be able to help out ... only issue I have is that I need to be up pretty early on Sunday to get out to Mosport for instructing.

Thanks for the reply Ed. Lanner is going to give me a hand. Have fun at Mosport.
Driver found! :D |
Cool, have a safe trip. What is the potential purchase, or is that a secret for the time being? :D
cheers Ed N. |
Ed, check out the thread with the same title as this one on the KCW forums.

Pete,
Congrats on the purchase of that rare horse. Loved reading the thread on the "extraction" :D Good thing Lanner was there as well  I'd love to see it in person. Sandeep |
Lanner is an awesome dude! :goodjob:

DUDE... nice grab :)
you going to GL it tho? Chris. |
You have to keep something like that stock. Too valuable to modify it.

Wow Pete. That is nice. Very nice.

Thinking of lowering it on some polished early fuchs, with a Boxster brake setup all around. Engine/trans will come after. Maybe IRS with the 923 trans i have, bolted to a T4-2L? T1-2275? We'll see, time and my currently empty wallet will tell. I'm open to suggestions. What do you guys think? :D Pete |
Killer ride Pete!
You have a split modified to the nines for your performance giggles.;) Rock it stock dude! Clean and tidy it up, do the maintenance/repairs to get it reliable and enjoy! I like a performance/modified VW as much as we all do, but a time capsule stocker is irreplaceably cool! my .02 Alex |
Can't do it Alex.
Need a little more juice. It is SLOW!!! That 40hp, takes FOREVER to get to 100km\h. I can't handle that. Not enjoyable. The drop will take care of this rollover feeling i have when taking corners. Can't have the drum brakes either. Hated them on my super, and i will launch this drum setup as soon as the money is there to do a Porsche setup. Other than that, it stays stock! :lmao: Pete |

^^ Truck tires? :lmao:
Umm no..... Alll my cars are low and stiff. This bus WILL get dropped. :D Pete |
I agree 100%, although this is a GL performance forum, and I came into the GL scene not even being a VW guy, I've learned a major appreciation for the original VW stuff.

This is like being on the Samba. "Keep it stock". WTF? Yes, it is a valuable VW. Let's keep it that way by making it be able to get on the highway without being rear-ended and having it stop without rear-ending someone else. Like Pete said, ain't nothing being done that can't be undone. He is not chopping the roof, adding 2 more windows to make it a 23, or anything like that. Motor, trans, brakes, rims, dropped. New stock interior, likely rolling the stock paint or at least the stock colour. It's all good. Relax boys, and push him along to actually get this little project done for next summer. :D

Good points Greg :D
If that were my bus, I'd put in a warmed over 2056cc T4 (140 hp) but built for torque + EFI/DIS, install the 923 5 speed and lower the bus. I'd install a boxster 24mm x 298mm disc brake kit, but use Lanners custom hubs on the stock bus bolt circle. I'd then find another set of stock rims and have those widened to 15x7 and 15x8. That should make the bus fun (and safe) to drive, while looking pretty stock too :D My .02c Sandeep |

These simple things can always be converted back to stock if need be. Slam it, big motor, big brakes and enjoy the 401 Looking forward to seeing this build:D |
