901 rear mount?

I've got a 901 box and I'm looking for suggestions for the rear mount fabrication. It is not a 914 box so it doesn't have the flat areas that can be drilled.

I'd rather not weld up the box with extra alloy so what else do you suggest.

Photos would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Have you checked the Bug@5speed website? He has a gearbox-rear-mount that uses four seperate silentblocks.Maybe that one does fit with your box.

Cheers,Arnoud

Edit:just checked the website but it shows no pictures-check this:

I had seen the bug@5sp mount before but I assumed the blocks needed to be welded to the bellhousing.

Are they bolt on? The bellhousing in that area is not very thick on a 901 and there is no space for a bolt head on the inside.

Bruce,

While welding is one option, they can be bolted on via countersunk hole and screws. Just don't go too deep with the countersinking bit..

Bruce,
I am currently working on the install for my 901 and have a few pictures of my solution using the stock style rear mount with a little part that I crafted to make it all bolt together...

Pictures of the solution

However, I am also using the Bug@5speed cable conversion and am having a few issues with tolerance between the cable converter and the rubber mounts... Stand by as I resolve this issue because my install isn't using the stock bug pedal set... my application is 901 w/ kennedy kit connected to a suby engine.

hopefully these help shed a little light, let me know if you have questions.

Thanks for the link, it gives me a couple of ideas.

Having the adapter plate gives you lots of options but I'm more likely to go for a t4 motor.

Cheers.

I think Bruce is on to something when he says to weld the blocks on.
it would, however permanently change your 915 forever...

Perhaps with the right machine (and machinist) a solution can be finagled...

At the moment I am favouring a fabricated mount that will attach to the end of the lower two engine studs (seen a few examples of that) and also bolt through the floor of the bellhousing (not within the area that the flywheel & clutch occupy) to provide more strength. This would avoid the need for a countersunk hole.

However, due to the position of the clutch arm, it may not work on a 915 (I have a 901).

I see how it looks when I get round to measuring up.
