915 question?
 

im going to install a 915 transmission of a 76' porsche 911 i am running the 86' 944 turbo aluminum trailing arms with the 86' 944turbo axles my question is will these work on the 915? if not then what axles do i use?

We carry a product (axle) that mates 944 axles to your 915, PM or email if interested.

That depends on what CV's size the 915 had. Its not the axles, but the CV's that need matching. Some 915's had 100mm CV's, like mine. 944 is always 100mm...

If the 944/24 always is 100mm could it be possible that one type of 944 driveflanges could fit the 915 diff spline?
And could a 944 axle be used for 100mm outer cv and 930? inner cv?
Are the inner splines in the cv`s the same for all?

I used early 944 axles and CVs on my 915 and they bolted straight on, not all 915 flanges are the same. FYI, mine was from an SC..

as always ricola delivers the goods. so basically if the 944 CV connects to the 915 drive flange than i can use the 944 axles. are all 944 924 and 944 turbo axles the same?

924/944 axles are not all the same, ally armed cars have much longer axles, I'm fairly sure the CV's aren't the same bolt pattern either...
There are posts about axle length, I think the early 944 ones were slightly shorter than stock type 1, I think that must have been balanced by the slightly wider 905 trans as I didn't have any problems...

Well, if this helps any. I've got a '86 915 out of a Carrera, and '87 944S CV's and shafts with '87 ali arms. They bolt to the 915 flanges.

The axles that are slightly shorter than T1 I recently found out are 410mm, whereas the beetle axle is 415.5mm

Then you were really, really lucky, as most late 915's have 110mm flanges/CV's and the 100mm 944 CV don't go with that.

Wally, I thought it was kind of strange too. The axles are marked '87 944S, but may be wrong (written with paint marker from salvage yard) I had one of the axles with me when I went to pick up the tranny, and the CV bolt holes matched the 915's.

I looked at my axles again today, and noticed that they are marked 944 S2 (not 944 S). This maybe why they bolt to the 915 flanges.

I'm sending my 915 flanges and stub axles off to precision alloy to be converted to 930. I modified my dune buggy Jamar shifter to work with the tranny. The 915 has such a short throw and shaft rotation the Jamar shifter has a lot of throw to spare!

Just so you know, the 930 splines are different to other VW/Porsche CVs, so you will need special axles.

Good info, as I didn't know this either.

I think however that the 110mm stock porsche CV's (90% of all 915's carry this size as stock...) are probably more than most of us will ever need.
