Heel/toe to get into first?
Hi! Did my first ever auto-x last night and the beetle handled pretty good. Needs some suspension work but one of the other issues I have is to get it into first while moving I have to double clutch, or at least rev match. I'm using the stock pedal assembly, stock brake m/c has a lot of pedal travel. Heel/toe with it is doable but way more difficult than most other cars I've driven.
What do you guys do? Aside from aftermarket pedal assemblies, Add extension to the throttle pedal? Just heel toe using the stock assembly? Ram it into gear ;)? Mike |
You will have to add to the throttle pedal or go with aftermarket pedals. I want to do a set of Tilton 600's in my car one day.

I remember seeing those and couldn't find them with a search, thanks!
To get the sizing right maybe I'll try and make a piece out of wood and do a sheet metal piece later. More tinkering! |
Hi
It sounds like your synchros might be a slow, is the trans fully warmed up when your running? Steve |

I used Lucas oil in the transaxle because it had the requirements for the LSD, can't remember if it was synthetic or not though. Although now that I think about it even if I'm cruising on the street/highway for a long time its the same, hard to get into first unless stopped, or revmatch/double clutch Mike |
Hi
I won some transmission oil treatment at my car clubs raffle http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Man...iff_Treatment/ I put it in my 1303 daily with an obviously high mileage transmission, I always had trouble getting back to 1st or 2nd when the motor and transmission were cold, now its like the proverbial knife through butter. Steve |
The symptoms sound like classic Volkswagen/Audi transmission issues due to incorrect oil. I would drain and fill with Motul 300 (checking it's compatible with the Limited Slip). No additives, no snake oil...just straight Motul 300.

Interesting I'll have to check this out. Thanks guys
Off topic: Owdlvr are you going to great canadian VW show? Just saw your location, I'll be driving mine out for the whole weekend, I'm pretty pumped. Never been to a VW show/event before. (I've never seen a performance AC VW in person before mine actually). :o |
Absolutely! This year the timing works out so that I can actualy make most of the events, usually it's on the Tail-end of Crankworx in Whistler so I'm too busy coaching. I should be at the drags, breakfast and show this year.

Interesting study done for AMSOIL: www.syntheticwarehouse.com/brochures/g2457_gearlube_study.pdf In this test the Lucas Oil I'm using scored dead last! |
Hi
Although I don't believe in snake oil additives, the Nulon stuff that I used really works. I tend to use Nulon for all my other lubricant duties when I can get it. The company is one of the sponsors of our annual VW Nationals every year. Did the VW LSDs use the same oil as a normal open diff or transmission? Steve |
