I'd opt to do the '02 first. It sounds like its in better shape and the shimmy should be quick to diagnose. Plus you have a better suspension set-up. Either way though, you still have the coolness factor.

Build the '67!! They are more desirable with the one-year only decklid and a lot prettier. Supers look pretty cool with 18's, fat Porsche brakes, slammed, TIV, and nice paint but if you haven't got that kind of budget I'd stick with the 67. Sorry Super owners...just my opinion.

For a GL, go with the '71. You should go through the suspension and rebuild/upgrade anyway so the shimmy is a non issue. The '71 will handle better and fits the GL image better. The '67 would be nice as a GL and more unique but it won't handle nearly as well with the torsion bar front suspension and swing axle rear.

I agree with kdanie.

Is that even a question..? '67 all the way!
Put it on an IRS pan and slap some 944 brakes on it. Kwel and easy. |
Pillow... I already spent money fixing up my swingaxle pan. I dont want to replace it with a IRS. I may consider converting the swingaxle pan to IRS down the road though.

All I'ma gunna say is Mcpherson Struts!
|
why take the same approach with both. go GL with the 1302 and resto or street or something with the '67. too much of one thing can be...well, too much.

1302
Go for the 1302 GL.
But, as my advice, don't start both projects at the same time! I am doing a '71 1302 and a '69 1300 and I wish I didn't started both projects....(and still I want to build me a buggy, a trike, to buy a bus...but this are my problems :) ) Good luck with whatever you choose!!! Martin |
Thanks Guys!

I decided to go with the 1302.
It would be foolish of me not to start on a project that is such good shape and is already street legal (registered & insured). The 67 has been a project of mine for almost two years. I bought it with no floors, no motor and a really bad body. Since then, I have replaced the floors, added a 1600dp, and swapped over to a nicer 67 body that I picked up for $150. So the 67 will go on the back burner for now & I will work on it slowly as parts come my way for a good deal. I will not be making the 67 into a German Look car. It will probably end up with a Euro Look Color will probably be Mercedes Silver. The bumpers, headlight rings & door handles will be chrome. One piece windows & cal look rubber 17" tuner wheels (probably like Konig Imagines) Type 1 motor for motivation Tranny will have close ratio gears for light 2 light action The 67 will end up similar to this car when it is finished. |
