bought a G50, now what...?
1 Attachment(s)
Just bought a G50/00 "shortnose" gearbox to mate with a JDM EJ20TT.
I already have the Kennedy adapter plate so that will be re usable if I'm not mistaken. But I need to figure out a lot of stuff, like: 1:Can I simply use CV joints from the same model Porsche as the G50? 2: Do the G50 axles need to be modified and in what way (I'm using stock type 1 trailing arms) 3: Any ideas on what clutch/flywheel I can use? (I have the Kennedy flywheel that's on my IRS pro street->EJ20TT setup now, maybe this is re useable?) This is the best plasce to ask tech stuff like this so lets hear it guys :) |
The G50 uses 930 size CV joints and they are a fairly common fitment for sand cars.
G50 axles will be too long, one option is to use carrera 4 front output flanges as they are type 2 size CVs, you can then use stock 944 axles/CVs Kennedy can do you a new flywheel to suit Porsche clutch, or you can copy what Wally did with the shortened bellhousing, main problem then is the ring gear on the flywheel is a smaller diameter. Welcome to the club ;) |
Hi
You could get your stub axles on your trialing arms altered to take the bigger CVs and then use Sway away axles. I bought all my stuff from KEP for my EJ20T. You already got my PB on keversite Tom, so combined with the above, you now know it all ;)

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it.
Picked up the box today and discovered something. I knew it had been mashined on the inside of the bellhousing to be mated to a Porsche 3.6 but it seems the bellhousing and the axle have also been mashined just like Wally did. This is on one side a good thing ( shorter means easier installation) but on the other side it I can't just order a KEP flywheel and install it like it is now. Will have to mail the people at KEP and see if they can help me out on this. |
Hi
KEP were really helpful with me, hope they can help you out. Steve |
