Compatability Question Vintage Speed Type to EMW Header
Was following a few threads on Shoptalk regarding the EMW header for the type IV. My questions is whether this looks like it could mate to the rear box that is sold by vintage speed for putting type IV motors into bugs.
Here are the two links to the two products EMW Header: http://www.europeanmotorworks.com/pv...ox+Replacement http://store.vintagespeed.com.tw/ind...mart&Itemid=80 This would be for a 1800 or slightly modified type IV (Mild build). Seems the spacing between the exhaust entries is dead on, and with minimal tweaking could be made to work. Thoughts? VR Alex |
That's what I've had made in stainless for my type 4 using the Vintage "Super Flow" muffler, I will see if I can find a good enough picture to post up.
My header pipes are more like the original pipes rather than long like the EMW ones folding back on themselves. So yes the spacing is right. Here we go, Im afraid Ive only got the mock up stage pix using the orig steel headers... http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/a...76848~original http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/a...76792~original http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/a...76827~original |
Pablo,
Thanks for the pics.. it would seem that the EMW may be a bit longer from the pics (could be the angle..) but at least the spacing seems right.. Worst case I could trim a little to make it work.. Thanks for the help.. at least this is a viable option.. with little data on performance.. but it could be good for mild motors. Time to start saving Alex |
I would expect those EMW pipes to be std length looking at them, I had to shorten the type4 ones by about 10cm to make everything fit behind the valance, before having them made in stainless.
Spacing is definitely right. I contacted Vintage before I bought the muffler with those questions. My only worry with the picture of the EMW's is the pipes don't looks straight as they come up to the flanges, so shortening them would make it wider. Paul |
Pablo,
Thanks, and something to consider.. worst case they can probably be bent back to align properly.. Again thank you for your input much appreciated, Alex |
