Does anybody know of a good book that I can buy that could teach me the basics about transmissions? Or even better a book that tells how to enhance the VW Tranny!!! Any references would be gladly appreciated!!

Its not exactly a book on the subject, but the bently manual is pretty detailed on taking it apart and working on it. The VW Beetle Performance Handbook, by Keith Sueme covers trannys enough to give you an idea of what is often done to upgrading it.
10 minuts at a book store will give you enough time to glean Suemes book.
