How low before shorter shocks

How low can you drop the front beam with Avis adjusters BEFORE you have to switch over to shorter shocks / dampers to maintain driveability? 1"? 2"?

TIA

I've lowered my car about 4". Still ok. But I figure it's nearing the limit....

I have been doing some reading, and according to Hale, 2" seems to be the switch over to shorter shox threshold.

regardless of how low youve dropped the front end, the correct way of determining shock length is to measure between the top and bottom mounts with the car on the ground and settled, and then buy shocks that match that length when at their mid-travel point. most short shocks sold for bugs are actually too short. one pair i checked out were at full extension on a 4" lowered beam, meaning that there was downward travel, but no upward travel!! pretty unsafe i'd say...

Hale? What's that?

I'm going to check out some Golf struts soon and compare them with my 944 ones....

I know that are shorter, but by how much, I dunno...

Hale wrote that one "so-so" book on making a bug handle.

What's the title of the book? I recall I saw something like it at Borders before. Not too much info on the Supers though. And no info on the Porsche conversions either....

How to Modify Volkswagen Beetle: Suspension, Brakes & Chassis for High Performance (Speedpro) by James Hale

NO Super Content.
Reads like a series of Magazine articles.
I give it a 6 out of 10.
If you have the Seume books, you probably don't need this book unless you want to shorten your chasis for a Dune Buggy.

I've definitely read the book then. I agree. Nothing spectacular....

Any other good books to recommend? Keith Seume doesn't have much Super content either....

Or we gotta write our own book! :)
