The oil pressure we are seeing at cranking is reported by my VDO gauge as 40 PSI, the TIM gauge (which uses a capillary) is reporting 48 PSI.
Thats with bare minimum connected to test it... No alternator, No MSD, No Fuel, No plugs in holes.

Is this good or bad?

Also, it doesnt quickly show pressure, it takes about 5 seconds to build up the pressure... Warning light goes out after one second.

p s i

40 psi is good. 60 is better. try using an adjustable relief valve.
my 1641 has worn cam bearings, and at 180F the 10 PSI oil light comes on. I installed the adjustable valve, and kicked the pressure up 10PSI. try a high volume pump. oil pressure is everything.
