17" on type 3

Hey all, I'm new to this site, but certainly not new to VWs, I have been driving and repairing aircooleds for 9 years.

My question is this. I have a 1970 Squareback, and a set of Momo GT2 7.5x17 ET35, will these clear the fenders on my square? I seem to remember reading that they will on shoptalkforums.com but I havent gotten any clear answer when asking about it. So, if any of you can give me any hints here, please let me know!

Fanatastic! That is the exact answer I needed, thank you very much, Angelo.

Now, to stray off topic here, I see you wrote in your signature that you have Audi Coupe calipers on your 3, can you tell me a little bit more about that? I have an Audi Coupe as a daily driver, and want to look into some bigger brakes for my type 3.

no probs!

hiya, yeah i'm using 1986 (me thinks) Audi coupe 2 litre front calipers, heard it off a guy on a UK forum. It is a BOLT ON item too ! only need for opening out mounting bolt holes in caliper carriers (M12 on type 3, M10 on Audi) and clearancing carrier for larger type 3 disc - REAL EASY!

HOWEVER.... mine is a '73 with the later calipers like on a 412. If yours is an earlier car, only need to swap out the front stubs i guess.

I did notice while in the breakers... most 80's VW's and Audis have the same dimension for the caliper bolt fitments ! Food for thought...

I have driven the car with the brakes on, however I have just complete a home brewed rear disc conversion using Mk4 golf calipers, hope it all works !:silly:

hi there
ive a question how did you fit the 944 front stabilisor bar?

nice car man and hello perl! 17 will look sweet as you can see on angelo s car.

Thanks again, Angelo!

The square I'm fitting the 17's on is a 1970, but I also have a 73 that I'm going to fix up. When I bought the 70 a few weeks ago I got a separate front beam from a 72/73 with the larger calipers. I'm definitaly going to install a set of Audi calipers after reading this, I just have to find a decent set. I cant take the ones off my 87 Audi.

Hi, Neil! Yeah, I think 17s will look very sweet on this car, stay tuned, and you'll know when I haev pics ready :)
