Engine mount questions...
 
I'm currently looking at the pan 72 super and it's in great shape no rust!:D

This question has probably already been answered, but I wasn't around to see the answers.
Now that I have the pan taken care of I was wondering if it would be possable to use a 1970 2.4L 911T engine in a VW, specificaly a 1972 Superbeetle!

What kind of modifications would I need to do? I know the engine is a 6-cyl. and is larger than a T1, but doese anyone think its possable?

You can make anything fit into a beetle. I have seen it done but can't remember where I found the information. The one thing that you may want to consider is the cost of maintainance of the porsche engine. You will need an oil tank to as well as all the plumbing. I was thinking of the same thing untill I got a look at the replacement part prices. I think P/C were $3,000:eek: Anyway I'm not here to rain on you parade just look at the horsepower to dollar ratio before installing a 911 engine into your bug.:) Check out some of the part prices for the engine you are considering at www.pelicanparts.com

Lots of welding required to make a 911 engine fit into a Type I car. I've seen two 356es (the engine is the same size as the 40-horse Type I) with 911 motors. They were really really really wedged in there. Lots of fabrication required.

Thanx Dave for the info... it's an idea that WAS thought of:silly: .

I'm gonna do some more research and se what other Porsche engines will fit inside with a little less fabrication (something other than a 914) but if I can find anything else I'll reside with the typeIV ....

Any seggestions would be nice!:)

The later 356 engines (also used in the 912 except for the 912E) made 90-95 HP. A little engine tin needs to be fabricated to fill the gap at the rear--the 356 engine is the same size as a 40-horse Bug engine--and that's it.

The downside? Price. Those suckers are spendy, and you really don't wanna know what a rebuild costs. Cranks are often out of spec nowadays, and have been ground enough to be marginal for more grinding... And a number of them break now from being run after having been ground too far... And cranks are really obscenely expensive.

But hey, they're pretty nifty lil' motors....

356, 911, 914 (and their derivatives) are the only aircooled Porsches.

WOW! thanks Dave, I'm glad you know you stuff when it come to Porsche engines, so what would be the best engine for my bug, the 914? It would be a little easier to fit in the engine bay than a 911!

Any suggestions... just a reminder I want to runsome serious compression through it, like nitrous and a turbo, a big turbo, the new GT series from Garrete!

Sorry genius, I dont have the money for it right now, besides there was a kit for the ACVW made by Nitrous Express that I was interested in, it is specificaly designed for the ACVW...but I'm still not sure if I want to run nitrous through my engine, escpecially when it's blown the way I want it!:)

REALLY?

I was told that NX was the only company that made a kit for the ACVW, how long are you going to keep it on sale?

If you can hold on to it I might buy it from you and put it on my baja and run the $h1t out of it , just to test it out, I would put it on my 72 but it's not even close to being done yet:D :silly:

If you need a Porsche motor, the 914 is the way to go. There are sites with Type IV (VW Type IV is "almost" the same engine as the 914) conversion info; a Google search ought to turn some up, plus a look around on this BBS and the http://www.shoptalkforums.com one should turn up info. As should a visit to Raby's site at http://www.aircooledtechnology.com .

If you're looking for cheap power, though, a built Type I is hard to beat. You'll be building it over and over, but if you want to put a big shot of nitrous into the motor you'll be rebuilding just about anything frequently anyway.
