GermanLook Forums - Rear porsche brakes to match my 944T front.

Hi All,

I'm currently running a Porsche 944 turbo brake system on the front of my bug and want to upgrade the rear end to match. The front end is using 298mm ventilated discs and brembo 32/44 piston calipers.

The rear suspension is swing axel with the short axels. And no i'm not going to convert to IRS as I'd have to go all porsche parts to handle the HP of my new turbo engine, and thats too dam expensive. The car is a straight line car anyway, that occasionally goes around corners.

My thoughts on the rear end were as follows..

1. Keep it all 944 based... - Adapt rear brakes from an '86 or later 944 turbo. (i'm told they nearly bolt straight on. - The possible issue here is that as the 944 was front engined the bias won't be correct and may require some kind of adjustment.

2. Early Porsche 911 style upgrade to Turbo size brakes. Use '86 944 hubs and discs with careera 4 calipers from the 93- 964 911's. This is a common upgrade done on early 911's which also use the same type of 944 front setup that I have on my bug.

3. The easy way, buy a 912 style rear disc "race spec" kit from CB Performance and bolt it on. Then adjust the bias using another means.

Anyone else out there running porsche/brembo brakes please give me your input and experiences. How does your car stop, etc...?
