Webber hexbar getting rusty fast

Hey guys -
My webber hexbar linkage is getting rusty or turning not black really fast. I was wondering could i powder coat this? or would it be to thick to fit thru the littel round thing where the cable hooks to? Should i just lightly sand it down and protect it with something? Any suggestions would be awesome.

You could powder coat or prime and paint it. Either way you will have to ream out the holes at the ends and were the cable attaches.
