Can you run with no torsion bar, and a coil-over shock suspension?
 

Ok, so heres the deal. I am putting in new brakes (911 turbo) and in doing so, I had to reaplace the stock control arm with a unit from a 944. Now i'm faced with a problem... THe shock mounting points aren't similar (duh) and so I have to have a shock that mounts as a 944 on the bottem, anda bug on the top. In doing so, someone has suggested to me that I can run with no torsion bar, and just run a coil over spring suspension, that will match up with the correct bolt holes respectively. DOes anyone here know if you can run such a suspension setup?

If it helps its a 1970 standard bug.

do a search in either brakes or suspension. we had some pretty detailed discussion on this with my car. there are several options. i chose to get a lower bushing replacement from Lanner at VDub Customs to adapt it to the 944 bolt.

Using MBT monoball setup with coilovers and no torsion bar on my 1303s. :) Its been a almost a year no problems. :)

I believe that you can remove the torsion bars on the front on a standard as well as the rears if you are going to run coilovers. The torsion bars are the springing medium in the stock setup and the coil on the coilover serves this excact purpose.

Can you please explain the "Monoball" setup you described?

Also, where did you get the coil overs?

If you are removing the torsion bars and running a coilover in place of the damper, would there not be stress related issues. Only thinking since the monting points for the shock are not meant to carry the load of the car (just the bound and rebound of the running gear).

Just a thought, what you reckon, does it need spreader plates in these areas.

the mono ball setup is similar to the Porsche 935 rear suspension...
it gets rid of the rear torsion bar and allows the use of an adjustable
coil over in its place...
