964 12 blade vs 911 11 blade alternator
 

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm if the 964 alternator will be a direct bolt in replacement for 911 fan conversions that usually use the 911 5 or 11 blade fans?

I mean is the outside diameter the same so the strap will still hold it in the right place?

No, it isn't the same; outside diameter is bigger on 964. Fan is also much deeper, so it won't clear most fan shrouds...

I had my 964 fan accidently turned down to 260mm (wanted only 265mm for strength reasons); it was close, but didn't brake and just fitted in my BAS shroud...

As I was going to be replacing my alternator soon I figured I might upgrade to something with higher output.

I might just be best to stick with the 11 blade fan and avoid any problems then and try to find a higher output alternator instead.
