Gated Shifter?

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have installed a metal gated shiftgate like the kind Ferrari uses (metal gate with long slots where the gear shift knob slides into to engage the gears)? I would really like to install one on my 1973 Standard, but dont know where to get one or how it would look, though i guess it would look pretty racy. Thanks all in advance.

Hi

A few years ago a French company was selling a 5 speed conversion based on a Type 1 trans, it used a gated shifter. I cant see being to hard to make up an alloy plate cutout gates on it and bolt it on.

I like the look. Always loved that about Ferraris. I've seen several in imports, trying to get that "look" and they usually don't pull it off very well.
I read a review in a car mag once from a guy testing a new Ferrari of some kind and he said he always hated the gate and wished Ferrari would stop using them... he's starting to get his wish, most of them are paddle shift now. What a shame.

Thanks for the replies all, I guess i will have to have a machine shop fabricate me one. Once i figure out the correct throw spacing. i'll let y'all know it turns out.

Hi

You could always make cardboard template and then transpose that onto some aluminium plate and then cut it out to suit yourself with drill and file.
