Is A Cooler The Next Step?
 

I got a question for you guys. I have a full flow system going and I’m going to add an oil cooler. I was reading How to hot Rod Volkswagens Engines to get some ideas. So what I did was got myself a RX-7 oil cooler from the junk yard and it has a built in thermostat.I was considering getting one of those sandwich adapters that one puts between the spin on filter and the remote mount and running lines to the cooler that I have positioned in the fount of the car. Upon reading an old issue of Hot VWs I realized that I may not need the sandwich adapter. I could just run the cooler in line with the full flow setup. That is to say, stick the cooler right after the HP-1 and run a line back to the motor. Finally the question: can I do the above, or will the thermostat stop the oil flow and starve the engine of oil.

the thermostat bypasses the oil cooler and allows oil to flow uncooled and should not impede its flow. I am running that set up

"One thing to consider - putting the cooler all the way up front is not the best choice. It may offer lots of air - but it makes the pump work Very Hard (which drains power) and you still may suffer from pressure drops due to the extremely long lines. If at all possible - I would recommend finding someplace closer, trying to keep you line length under 2 feet in either direction".
