993 rotors in front?
 

Hello guys! Im new here, but not in the VW/Porsche world. Have never done this mod tho. I have read around here on the forum and other websites. And Im just getting more and more confused. Seems like everyone doin diffrent metods.

I want to fit 993 turbo rotors (or other big Porsche discs) in front of my 1967 Karmann Ghia. I have read the techarticle here on Germanlook. So I know mostly wich parts I need. Drill at fit brakecaliper adapters/mount will not be any problem. But not sure how to machine the spindles for the bearings. I have new CB Performance droppedspindles layin.

Have anyone here done this or any other brakeconversion with big discs that is easier? I would be VERY happy if someone could answer my questions and maybe help me with machining my spindels and stuff like that.

Welcome to the GL forums.

First, you need to choose VW or Porsche bearings first. (VW is cheaper over hear) Then you need to make spacers to fit bearings in hub for VW, or sleeves for spindle if going with Porsche. And remember to machine for grease seal on back of hub.

Anyone here who can machine hubs (or spindles) for the bearings for me??

I thought you were going to do the machine work yourself. Yes, what brujo65 said. Lanner did my hub's and caliper adaptors. (for CB dropped sindles) He's Da'man. :righton:

Thanks for the replys. How much $$$ for the machinework @ Lanner? What hubs (model and year) are you guys running on your CB spindles? SO I know what to hunt :)

I have 87' hub's. From 87' up the turbo and non turbo hub's are the same, but add the most track. The rotor's also mount on the front of hub. Where 86' down mount on back without rotor hat. Here is Lanner's price page. (price does not include hub or spindle)

Wrenchride I see your from Cleveland, funny thing my 911 5 speed tranny comes from Cleveland and got shipped all the way to Sweden/my garage. :D

You must have got tranny from German Auto Dismantlers. They are in Cleveland, Georgia. I'm in Tennessee. (two hours northwest) I got my 915 from them also. (along with alot of other goodies :D )

It also includes mounting brackets and hardware for mounting. (you supply bearings, seals, hubs, rotors, and spindles) Plus very detailed mounting instructions. It's a great deal. But I might be a little bias :rolleyes:

WEould front hubs from an '87 944 Turbo be a good starting place, or should I keep looking for '86 parts?

87 and later hubs are the same T or NA. They will add more track than the earlier years though...

How much more?

With CB dropped spindles 6.2mm per side.
