What you have to understand is that the 944 is a VW (Type 477) from conception and then in the latter part of the project Porsche took over the design. As an example, the (early) rear wheel bearings are the same as a Bug but you'll pay twice the price for the same part from a Porsche dealership as you would from a VW supplier.
