Don`t think that I`ll ever drive my toy on a road with potholes
Brakes have been checked by a LVV Certifier and approved after machining the 2nd caliper brackets with 3 mounting holes . The Certifier builds race cars himself (super sevens) and reckons that it is plenty of room. These wheels carry the weight of a 996 convertible which is considerably heavier than a 54 Beetle.
I saw the brakes of a Peugeot 205 World rally car from 1984 and found that these had only 1 mm clearance between wheel and caliper. I checked them during the rally Targa New Zealand and no problems on this French thingy.
If I hit a pothole or rock so hard that it bends the rim, I should be worried about other things too !
But thanks for your concern
