try 2 12volt hair dryers when i was in school and had my first VW . it was a 70 baja 1776 with chrome tri-mil exhaust no heater boxes and my primary means of transport . i wired 2 12volt hair dryers under the hood (in the trunk) . i would start my car on a cold morning hit the toggle switch and let tem run for about 10min plenty of heat for the trip to school as well as one hell of a defrost
