I don't think it really matters if its aluminum or steel. They both are chrome plated in the same way. After the parts are prepped they go through a copper bath, nickel bath, and chrome bath all for different times, and checked between baths for imperfections. Call a chrome shop to be sure as i'm no expert... but I did stay at a holiday inn express once!
