thanks guys BUT

I have a standard beetle with stock fenders and a 2" narrowed beam in the front, and lowered to the ground. During the years I have had a lot of wheel and tyre combos, so the question wasn't that. Just wanted to know what do you think about the design, will it bang on a (GL) beetle or not? Because I can't imagine this wheel mounted on a bug.

I hate stretched tyres too! They are ugly and unsafe..a GL car is about the power and handling. Actually I have 7,5x17 wheels with 205/40 tyres around and I wouldn't be happy about buying new tyres as mines are nearly brand news..that's why I was asking if a 205/40 would fit into a 9" or not. But for now, I'm sure at least a 215-225 tyre is needed for that rim. on the 8" 205 are OK I think.

not the best pics for this but the rear tyre is a 205/40 on a 8,5 rim

As theese wheels are 3 piece wheels, maybe I can get smaller barrels and make a 7 and 8 wide set of them..so the main question is still the design.
