Lots of learning going on for me. I made the commitment to building a stout vw transaxle instead of going the subaru route. I just dont feel like re-fabricating everything that would move by the engine position changing. I have also read some interesting things regarding the durability of the flipped r&p setups due to them running in the opposite direction. I purchased a cheap used transmission and lucked out as most of the internals were in great condition. I elected to buy some fancy stuff, a new aluminum rhino case, a 3:44 r&p (should put me around 3000rpm @ 70mph due to my smaller tire size), a fancy side cover for the thrust side, and I have a Quaife differential on the way as I couldn't come up with an original zf lsd. I have had to make several tools including the shift fork jig because I prefer to torture myself over buying things. I also decided to re-bush the front carrier shift rod because they weren't quite tight enough. Its hard to find good info on rebuilding these units. To me its weird that there are so many scared people out there that wont even attempt rebuilding these themselves as in my opinion they are relatively simple. I should hold my tongue though as its not back in the car yet!
