The drag racing guy's use them, but with universal joints inboard instead of CVs. Ron Lummus racing has the kit. The bus box shift shaft exits higher than the typeI tranny. To use it "as is" in a bug, you have to run the shift rod on top of the tunnel. Gene Berg makes a intermediate housing that allows you to use the type I nose cone and hockey stick to keep the shift rod in the stock location. The price to adapt a bus box to a bug compared to other swaps (901,914,915 etc...) is about the same, and you get an extra gear with the others. So you have closer 1st thru 4th then tall 5th for highway cruising. This a basic answer to this subject.
